The dude at Harvey Norman in Wellington made me rush down last minute to pay, otherwise he said I wouldn't get it (foolish of me to bend to his whim, in retrospect). Bit of a suckfest.

6. Bullying some people to pay (i.e. demanding that they come in and pay immediately or else!) vs not requiring other people to pay. So being both inconsistent, and rude.

I just called HN Manukau and talked to one of the computer managers.

I was told:

-that they would be here tomorrow, but they're telling everyone late next week so they have time to distribute to the stores and call, etc.
- there were 90 ordered for the Manukau store, and approx 2,000 nation wide.
- they were made by ASUS Australia to the exact specs of the hp mini, but he could/would not give me a model #; instead he said they were a custom build (usual story).

I know this has been speculated to death, but weren't HN telling everyone from the 28th on that it would be an ASUS custom build? I wonder how they got that arranged so fast?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting it and seeing if it is indeed the same as the hp. My thinking is it had better be, or there will be a big stink from a lot of unhappy geeks.

So they will be a limited edition asus which will make them worth more :)
I don't really care what it is I get as $288 is cheap for a netbook no matter what the specs.

Far out is anyone ready to write a novel about this saga? Haha:D

Something tells me that they won't try doing this again this Boxing Day!

Perhaps they are shipping all of the leftover stock from Aussie to NZ.

Chocolate fish to the first person to eyeball one of these things and get us some goddamn details!

Press Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager

Use the sandshoe camera, we'll have an operative ready to smuggle the film to the coast where we have the sub waiting to get it to HN-speak-free Geekzone HQ.

What is your problem mate seriously?

Its a raincheck, they insist on a deposit to secure a unit in their order. Where else can you get an equivalent spec netbook, brand new, for $288. You can't. If you don't like cancel your order, but im sure I speak for us all when I say Im sick of your incesant whining. We don't know the model number, or anything about them yet you are accusing Harvey Norman of peddling second hand goods and inferior products. Lets wait till they are released and see. I get the feeling "being built" is just their way of saying they are downgrading/upgrading the hdd/ram of a current model?

Well I'm sick of your whining when you say you're sick of my whining.

If you're sick of my whining then don't bother reading this message board.

Other than you and jayaldous, many other people here aren't particularly impressed with how HN have handled all this, so why why don't you STFU!

If we want to moan then that's our perogative and we'll moan as much as we like.

Clearly you must work for HN or something, otherwise you wouldn't be standing up for them.

Read the FUG please!

Gee, for someone who is sick of the whining on this message board, you seem to be keeping a pretty close eye on it.

Maybe you work for Subway then Subway?
