Black Mirror on Netflix is good Sci-Fi -

Granted its an episodic show rather than a serial one... but its a great modern take on the Outer limits/Twilight Zone

the USS Callister Episode in Season 4 and its "into infinity" sequel this year are great...

I was really looking forward to the new season of "Love Death + Robots", but celeb voicing and Mr Beast, really? Bleh.

Just started watching Mobland on Prime.

It's gritty and good. Exactly what I thought it would be.
Tom Hardy as the genteman enforcer is an interesting take, but it works really well.

Not for those that don't like a little blood and swearing.

The only one I can't quite wrap my head around is Pierce Brosnan as an Irish mob boss - his accent seems so forced, despite him being Irish.

Brosnan was born in Drogheda supposedly home of the worst Irish accent.

Mobland is good fun. Helen Mirren plays a particularly nasty piece of work.

It's kind of the east end Sopranos.

Totally hooked on MobLand and have binged it until I caught up with the weekly releases. Great story and star cast - except for Pierce Brosnan, who almost single-handedly derails the whole thing for me. Not really the accent - I have hardly ever seen him before but to me he just seems to be an awful actor.

Helen Mirren is reprising her role as the gritty, elderly, Irish matriarch that she played opposite Harrison Ford in the Yellowstone prequel, 1923 - but at the other end of the ‘good - evil’ spectrum.

Yes, was thinking that too as I watched it. As in The Sopranos, it’s the kids who pay the biggest price. Maybe wives too up to a point - but they sort of have options that the kids don’t.

I've been off sick most of this week, so have started a few things and continued others:

Mobland - up to date on this now and eagerly anticipating the next episode

Andor - again, this is good, but a slow burner. Up to episode 7.

High Potential - wife and I are really enjoying this.

The Rookie - new season and really enjoying it as we always do

Reacher - I started watching this and am really enjoying it. I like that Alan Ritchson is how the character was described in the books. I'm only about 4 episodes in on season 1. Loving it.

Banshee - I know it's quite old, but I thought I'd give it a go. I am enjoying it, but the fairly frequent and graphic sex scenes seem unneccesary and don't add to the story (I don;t mind nudity and adult content where it adds to a project, but feel the same about this as I did with GoT at times - it's there for some directorial shock value or other reason and doesn't do anything for the overall story), just to the titillation. So far I am on the fence on this one, 5 episodes in.

The Last of Us - up to date on this and loving it again.

Taskmaster - new season on linear TV - great cast this time around. Good energy and very funny so far.

Just finished Reacher season 1.

If you like that sort of thing, it's very good.

A medical drama of an ER through one day, it is excellent, binged it over Easter.

This is nothing like Greys or ER.

Andor - season 2

Star Wars for grown ups - not a single light saber or jedi and portrays a facist Empire that is actually frightening and efficient.

Season 2 is broken up into 4 x 3 episode blocks. Each basically a 2+ hour movie covering the 5 years leading up to Rogue One.

It leads right up to Rogue One - IMO one of the best Star Wars movies. Hard to believe that was released 9 years ago. I would have stayed up to watch Rogue One straight after the Andor finale but it's a school night.

The praise it's getting is well deserved.

Yeah, it's definitely adult Star Wars, but without the HBO-esque unnecessary additions of language, nudity and violence.

The implied violence of an oppressive Empire is so well done. I have really enjoyed this series.

Love, Death + Robots Season 4. Terrible, from the first episode to the last one. Actually, I can't say it truthfully because I gave up at episode 8. I can't believe it's the series I used to love. Feels like it's been written by gen-AI, with infantile formulaic stories if you can call these scripts "stories" in the first pace; uninspired acting and animation, and an almost complete absence of science fiction in what's supposed to be a sci-fi anthology. Not a single redeeming quality, not a single episode worth my time, no matter how ridiculously short they are. And don't get me started of the RHCP marionettes show.
