If you want to avoid Chinese electronics you will be buying virtually zero electronics.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Some are, some aren't. Just like products made anywhere else.

I have had some branded products (eg a Black & Decker Mouse) die after a few hours use. I have had some cheap products do very well - like a cheapie $27 sander I originally brought for a one-off job, and which seems to be built like a tank and just keeps going after having been flogged for 9 years.

In general, but not always, you get what you pay for. Regardless of where the product is made.

chinese electronics are a lucky dip.

cheap no-name stuff is generally crap.

big name brand products generally undergo much stricter quality control and greater adherence to original design specs.

eg. chinese made quad audio products are of higher quality (and more reliable) than anything that ever came out of the uk.

IMO there is a big difference between "China owned" companies in China, and "Western owned" companies in China.

"Western owned" produces mostly the good quality stuff. These companies also tend to treat their employees a little better (Not great by our standards, but much better than some of those China owned companies).

Its the China owned companies that are producing the junk, bad spelling in user manuals, cheap and nasty products etc ....

Foxxcon isn't western owned it? It is Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd and it makes Apple, Blackberry, PS, Wii as far as I know still. Its Chinese, Chinese owned.

What this means, is that like anywhere, you can have a compamy making rubbish. This is clearly not the case at Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd or the many others that make our branded products.

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd is a Taiwan-based company.
Not western owned then. But not China owned

You right LOL
Geography has never been my strong point.

This is interesting though. Because years ago I distinctly remember many items being marked as made in "Taiwan". Don't see much of that anymore.

And the two "countries" or "states" if you can call it that, have different labor laws.

So then IMO, items made in Taiwan are a higher quality than those made in China.

The problem though is that it seems all products fall under "made in china" these days. Interested to hear what the Ops thoughts on this are.

Not so. Products made in Taiwan are marked "Made in Republic of China" or "Made in R.O.C" = ROC.

Products made in China are marked "Made in China". (Official name is Peoples Republic of China = PRC)

I am not taiwanese but taiwan is not china.

Those who say that are the ones that said auckland is in australia

People have mentioned QC. They havent mentioned design. The stuff designed by cheap chinese clones are propbably done by buying paying an employee of a nearby factory to get access to the blueprints, remove 80% of the quality design, make it up with supaglue, replace the most expensive bit with the cheapest clone (cloned in the same way as described) and hire untrained people to put it together, there you have your a phone. If it is sold to you for us150 it probably cost us10 to make.

Stay away.
