We are able to say we have voted and encourage others to vote but can't "influence voters or discuss candidates or parties" as that is a breach of the electoral act.

Not sure where speculation on the result (without comments) fits into that.

Having waded knee deep in election BS for the last two months it is my fervent hope we don't have to go through it again for another 3 years.

Edit: On the more important ballot this week. Good choice Scotland.

Looking at NZ Herald, and the complete lack of anything that might be perceived as a prediction of the result, I suspect that this thread might actually breach the Electoral Act.

(Comments attacking specific parties/candidates definitely breaches the Act though)

Social media on election day

There are additional restrictions on election day. On election day (from midnight on 19 September until 7pm on 20 September) there is a general prohibition of the publication of any statement that is likely to influence which candidate or party a person should, or should not, vote for.

Election advertising does not have to be removed from social media so long as:

the material was published before election day
the material is only made available to people who voluntarily access it, and
no advertisements promoting the page or site are published on election day.
If you use social media, do not post messages on election day that could breach these rules. The Commission recommends candidates and parties temporarily deactivate their Facebook campaign pages to avoid the risk of supporters committing an offence by posting on your page. For other forms of social media where others can post comments the Commission recommends that where possible security settings are changed so that other people cannot post messages before 7pm on election day.

"66% turn out...Must have been the bad weather". Of course it was. I bet it had nothing to do with the dissatisfaction of the New Zealand people with the current political system at all! I feel I will see a majority in my lifetime. It will be great to be able to say majority of the New Zealand people stand with me and many others that refuse to legitimise a broken system. Instead, those telling us we can't complain will finally be the minority and perhaps they will realise we have been voting in our own special way and complaining all along.

To top it all off, they called the percentage of New Zealanders that voted for parties that didn't get in "wasted". This is the same media outfit that was constantly encouraging people to vote for the weeks leading up to the election. It was the final ironic nail to seal what has been a very ironic two weeks.

EDIT: Until there is an option for "No confidence", you won't see me anywhere near a polling station any time soon.

By choosing not to vote you only disappear into your own argument of dissatisfaction.

Just watching the post election coverage on both One and 3. My abiding impression is what a dick Patrick Gower (TV3 The Nation) is. More important for him to make his opinion known than listen to the answers given. Needs to take a leaf out of his colleagues book.

Not uncommon. Ever heard Kathryn Ryan on Radio NZ? She jumps down the throat of her interviewee before they can utter even half an answer to her question!

I feel pretty bad for Hone, looks like what was perhaps a great thing for the Mana party to draw in some Pakeha votes, really turned out to be a disaster.

Looks like Kiwis don't like overweight dudes who don't wear suits.
