Exactly. Why is it that people who kill others on the roads lose their driving privileges for only a few years at most? (Often only a few months.) They should never be allowed behind the wheel again.

Well, because sometimes people learn their lesson and don't do it again. But I take your point - recidivist offenders should have their cars crushed, and anyone who lends them a vehicle should be fined.

I have no problem with people being stripped of assets used in the committing of a crime (in this case cars, boats, dive gear, etc.) and would love to see it be part of our justice system for other crimes as well. For example, while not a fan of "boy racers" it seems crazy that the government can seize and crush their vehicles while the punishment for drink drivers seems to be that you cancel the driver licence - a completely ineffectual measure given the number of times I read about someone caught speeding or driving drunk on a suspended/disqualified licence. In my knee-jerk reactionary opinion, driving a one-and-a-half-tonne vehicle while drunk is like walking around holding a loaded gun - it's only a matter of time before someone loses control and someone (else) gets hurt or killed.

She can go to prison with a second offense I believe. Such a deliberate circumvention of the rules would certainly see her receive the highest penalties available.

If we lose the sea life we will be in real trouble and probably extinction candidates. I am very much concerned about over exploitation.

Some may say Oh its just Cockles, I do not see them as just Cockles they are very important like all sea life to our presence on this planet.

Not that well. I was in grey flannel shorts at boarding school when the 70's part of it took place, and my parents had not met in the 50's!

Commercial fishing though - not really the same as collecting shell fish in your Audi at the beach. Although based on the recent illegal fishing in Antarctica that was allowed to slide by, perhaps we just concern ourselves with the low hanging fruit....

We have confiscated large fishing vessels. There two birthed at Mirimar for a long time before they disposed of. So yes if the super yacht was involved in illegal fishing it can be confiscated.
