Clarkson's opinion does not amount to much, he likes British cars and said the Veyron would never be made.

To be fair, he likes lots of nations cars, they spend a lot of time praising manufacturers from all over Europe. He has not been a big fan of most American cars, but I believe his opinion is bourne out by lots of car critics. His recent opinions on American cars has been more positive.

BTW that wasn't Clarksons opinion, that was someone suggesting that would be his reaction to watching the new top gear, such was the suckiness of the show according to the person who posted that picture.

He is right about American Cars, the ones I have driven are terrible. Having said that most Euro boxes are not that flash either even James Mays beloved Dacia's

I've not driven many old ones (A few corvettes and the like), but I'd have to say modern American cars are very nice. I probably wouldn't buy one if a Euro was in my price range, but I'd buy one if it met my needs.

when I get to watch the new show it will be with exactly that in mind, a new show. Not the old TG with new front people but an entirely new show. I will will also watch it with and open mind. I will de the same with the new Clarkson, Hammond and May creation when I see it.

Critics have universally panned it.

I quite enjoyed it to be honest and think it will improve over the season. I certainly missed "the blokes", but the shows format remains the same and some of the humour is still thankfully there - Drag racing on Blackpool beach now has a whole new meaning.

Also looking forward to seeing the return of Clarkson, May and the Hamster.

I work on the theory that there must be a reason that the big US car manufacturers needed huge bailouts from their government during the GFC. If the Americans aren't even buying US cars, why would I?

Look at their absurd pension schemes etc for the reason why, not a problem with the cars themselves.

I have driven Dodge, Chrysler, Chevy, Ford (US) and Jeep in recent times. The build quality is low and the power output hmmm, they seem to need a thumping great V8 to get even close to the power output of say an Audi or BMW. Their interiors are just awful and some of the exterior designs the same.

Now admittedly some of those US marques I have listed are no longer strictly American but they are American made.

Watched it and it wasn't too bad. Chris Evans was rather annoying and probably trying too hard but Matt LeBlanc was pretty good.

I still miss the three idiots but shall see how things develop with the show over the season.

I tried to watch it, I lasted 20 minutes. Chris Evans is spectacularly awful....and it was just completely unfunny.

I may try the rest of the episode later to give it a fair go, but I just need a break from that voice drilling into my skull.

Can't abide Chris Evans so it's a no go for me. The BBC incarnation died when they booted the Three Musketeers AFAIC. I wonder if that bloke Clarkson understandably decked is working on this version?! I bet not.

That was horrible. I forced myself to watch the whole thing. Smiled once. No laughs, at all.

It could be worse. I'll give it a bit longer before writing it off.

I haven't seen the whole thing. Agree about Evans, his voice is grating. I expect once he gets the hang of it, and settles in the role, it will be less horrifying.

MLB isn't too bad, I can see him being good even. Some of the segments will need refining. I laughed out loud twice, but I also visibly cringed quite a few times.

I thought MLB commenting about beating staff behind a closed door with a stick was pretty naff, considering how the last show ended.

The bit with the 2 cars in different nations colours was excruciating and pointless and the two guests format was hideous.

I'll give it a few more weeks, if I can handle Evans, because I like car shows in general, but boy, a year to prep that...

I think it was ironic they had Gordon Ramsey as the first guest, because I think he would have been a far better presenter than Evans, as he is more blokey, but perhaps isn't light hearted enough. They also had that Facebook actor guy, but he had zero personality, which I presume is why they needed two guests on the first night, as Ramsey took a lot of the load.   Evans was trying to be far to much like Clarkson. Evans voice is also weird, it high pitched and shouty. Shrill is probably the word to describe it. It was like he was high on something, as he was jumping around everywhere. Leblanc doesn't really have any personality, and was fine as a backup presenter. It is probably why he didn't get much criticism. He always talks like it is such a big effort, which isn't a great thing for a TV show. There is zero chemistry between the two presenters which is going to be a big problem for the show. They also have that woman presenter, but they never introduced her, she just appeared in a segment, and wasn't in the actual stage parts. I think it really needed a James May type to tie them together. May was the sort of 'Geek' , while Evans is the 'Geek' on his new show, and a 'Geek' doesn't make the best presenter for a blokey type show like this. Clarkson was really perfect for that politically incorrect dad type who says what he really thinks while watching TV. A biut of a 'shock jock' type. It reminds me a bit of when they replaced Charlie Sheen on that Two and a half men show, it only last 1-2 more seasons before it died a slow death.

Also really hate what they did with the 'celebs drive an affordably priced car thing'. It is like they tried far too hard to make it better, by making it worse. It now uses a high priced mini and has offroad parts. The whole point of the old format, was that they drove the type of car that everyone could afford, and thrashed it on a track. I guess it isn't much worse than I thought it would be. But I think they should have just totally redone it for a new generation, rather than try to copy the old show. Honestly some of the car youtube shows are far better, and have presenters with more chemistry.
