Will potentially be returned to the sender eventually which a lot of people in Australia have reported.

It would still be interesting to know the real reasons for this move. There is no shortage of airfreight capacity now (unlike last year and early 2021 when there was) but airfreight costs are still a lot higher. I wonder with the financial woes of USPS that they've simply decided to cut their losses and suspend carrying parcels they're probably losing money on?

I’d guess it’s financially driven. This was part of a number of service changes which seemed to all be about cost reduction.

To summarise:

Shipped 28 August

My recent USPS item took about 3 weeks from arriving in Tokyo to arriving in NZ.

In my case, I've recently had an item delivered to me more than 2 weeks after it has supposedly arrived into New Zealand! Unfortunately once it arrives in the country NZ Post doesn't track it. The tracking below shows tracking up to arrival in the country, and the item was only delivered last week!

On another note, I just ordered another (similar) item from the same seller/vendor, shipped via the same method - this was just a day or two before this announcement supposedly came out. USPS showed that "Label created, but item not in system yet". However, the seller provided a link via Asendia USA's website, and according to Asendia, it showed the item has been "Received by US Carrier", so it will be interesting to see what comes out of this one - whether I'll get it or will it get returned. I'll probably wait a few more days, and if no movement then I'll get in touch with the seller/sender to make an enquiry.

I was in a similar position as you. Saw it arrived in the country, then silence. Waited almost a week (actually more like 10 days), then decided to ring up NZ Post to find out. The CSR took my call, and indicated cos of the shipment / postal service type there is no local tracking, but she will still initiate a query to find out where things are at. She created a case number for me. Then about 45 mins later she rang and gave an update - apparently the container containing the item has arrived in the country but NZ Post International hasn't processed it yet due to a "large backlog of incoming items". She suggested waiting for another week to let NZ Post sort it out.

Waited a further week, nothing, so I rang NZ Post again quoting my case number, and another CSR advised item has been processed only 3 days prior to my 2nd call, and is on its way to local delivery branch. He would do another follow-up for me. And then the item turned up the day after! It was delivered by the local postie (as indicated) - not CourierPost.

What was surprising to me this time was both the CSRs I spoke to were nice and courteous, you really can't fault them for doing their job, and they are very proactive in helping and following up, very unlike another situation I had back in August with some rather rude and unfriendly CSRs who are not interested in helping at all.

Anyway, hope you get your item soon.

On another note, re the new item I ordered, I contacted the seller and they've advised the item has been picked up by USPS but USPS did advise of a shipment delay and they are doing all they can do get it over ASAP, with returning the item not an option at this stage, so I can only wait...
