Not necessarily. The allegations alone can be enough to ruin a career and it's conceivable someone would resign rather than being dragged through the mud.

And maybe the allegations were picked up, but there was no evidence. Also, inappropriate behavior could mean anything.

I have no knowledge of his innocence or guilt of whatever the allegations are, but it bothers me that men seem to be assumed guilty based on allegation alone.

I had an acquaintance that was falsely accused of sexual misconduct at a party.

He was drunk and largely couldn't recall most of the night, denied the whole thing and insisted he'd never do anything of the sort, but was accused by a young woman of "things".

3 years of his life were ruined on that allegation alone, until he had his day in court and a witness came forth and proved him innocent without doubt.

He wasn't the same young man afterward and I lost touch with the people he was closest to, so don't really know what happened to him long term, but yes - allegations are seen as fact in the eyes of many.

Until all the facts come out, it's very hard to maintain your innocence in the eyes of the general public as a man vs woman in these situations. I'm not saying he's not guilty. I just saying he's not had his say either.

I think (veering a little off topic here) in the age of Trump and misinformation, people can just say any damn thing they like and it's taken as fact, no need to provide evidence or anything.

Having said that, all of Kamahl's behaviour doesn't really add up - if I was him and I was innocent, I would have fought to clear my name rather than resigning, especially for a job I loved. The silence from him is not really doing anything to help his situation, IMO.

@quickymart This thread is part of the problem. Public speculation is hard to avoid when it involves a public figure. If he were say a cameraman nothing would have it the court of public opinion.

You're right, that's the problem with being in such a high profile role as his was - you have to behave yourself.

Disclaimer: while I'm in the media game as well (except radio, not TV) I always do my best to keep my nose clean, especially in the event that I make it to the "big time" one day, at least things like this won't later come back to bite me.

eracode: I think this is not so much about what he’s been accused of - more about the processes (or lack thereof) surrounding his hiring - which is a different issue.

The hiring is one thing. The speculated cause is potentially a serious workplace safety issue so there is a general interest too in how this was handled.

I can understand the wider political concern given the apparent lack of transparency from a state broadcaster currently part of a mega-merger that's mopping up hundreds of millions of dollars of funding.

But it's not hard to imagine that plain old nepotism may be the actual problem and operational shortcomings have meant it's something that someone has been able to get away with that they shouldn't have, which is a problem in pretty much every large organisation you can possibly imagine.

One of the first stations I worked at had a horrible narcissistic a-hole bully for a manager - he wasn't far off from being like Trump, if I'm being honest. He then gave his daughter a sales job there. She always said her Dad had nothing to do with her getting the job, but I always had my suspicions. He was apparently a philanderer too, despite being married at the time (I had this confirmed with a few other people after I left there). He always said he had a "25% share" in the station, but I never found any record in the Companies Office register to back that up. There was no way in hell you could disagree with him or argue anything with this old so-and-so, he knew everything there was to know about radio, despite the fact he had never presented a show in his entire life.

In any case, the daughter thought she was really hot s--t, and would let everyone know what a great saleswoman she was. She also could have a nasty temper and didn't hesitate to tear into me if I dared to do anything wrong. Apple definitely didn't fall too far from the tree then either!

Karma would come back to bite the manager when he left the station a few months after me (and I wasn't even there for a year), when his wife - who by all accounts was really nice, although I never met her - died of cancer. Fortunately, he doesn't work in the industry anymore and I would say he's probably retired now, which is a good thing, although I always pitied his wife being married to someone as horrible as him.
