Me thinks the proverbial excrement has unbalanced the fan while at full speed at the moment.
I don't know the full story well nobody does but I would say there are going to be some other vacancies shortly at TVNZ

The little dance from their breakfast team this morning was both heartbreaking (as they don't deserve this) and deeply shocking.
TVNZ need to open book this immediately, their overall communication is shoddy. Even their attempt at being impartial on One News last night stank of a cover up.
I fully expect to see them "sack" (ie leave for personal reasons) most of their senior team who guided this guy as their golden saviour without performing due diligence.

The family emergency quote was bollocks from the start and they should be taken to task over that alone imo.
There will be plenty of scrambling to save one's arse I could well imagine.

This is quite funny coming from this government, I wonder what Mahuta would say, but she's probably too busy getting her next family member a cushy job. #Hypocrisy
mattwnz: I just wish the government had sold it, and not tied it up with RNZ in the future. Seems bizarre to see this story as one of the top news stories. There are far far more important things to report on imo, especially at this stage.
I enjoyed watching TVNZ in the 80s and early 90s, but I struggle to understand the point of it these days. It has no public service ethos, it doesn't offer any local content that Discovery couldn't screen on their outlets, and it is becoming increasingly irrelevant in the streaming era.
Does anyone under the age of 70 actually watch it?
I watch TVNZ sometimes, and I'm well under 70. But I definitely don't watch as much as I used to - hardly any time for TV these days.
Regarding this Kamahl guy: I have a (very small) stake in the media game, and can tell you that he probably won't work in the media again for a very long time, if ever - and certainly not in a frontline presenting role like he has been up until now.
He had really worked his way up the ladder, starting off by reading the off-peak (overnight) bulletins on TV3, moving on to Sky Australia, then Al Jazeera. Personally I never really understood why he came back here to co-host Breakfast of all things - if you're a fulltime presenter on a major global network like Al Jazeera, you've basically made it in the journalism game. If I had ever got a job like that, I would never, ever leave it, especially if I enjoyed it.
Then again, the cynical part of me thinks maybe things like this were catching up on him there, so his former manager - by this point working for TVNZ - gave him a new job here with a wink and a nod, enabling him to escape any consequences for his actions.
The "family emergency" thing I didn't believe either, especially when it then morphed into a "personal" issue. Problem with handling it the way TVNZ has done is (eventually) it comes back to haunt you. For my 2c, their handling of this whole saga has been extremely poor.

The Family Emergency was likely his partner telling him in no uncertain terms that they were leaving, after having been promised "it only happened once"
Hers's some good background from his first boss

Thanks for the link, I was wondering when Mark Jennings would comment - he originally hired him at TV3 back in the late 90s. "Fall from grace" is absolutely the right way to describe it.
Based on the article linked by @wellygary I'd say Simon Power will get way more involved that the CEO normally would in an employment situation.
It does appear that he's perhaps been a naughty boy (or at least been accused of being one) and that this will either all come to light or the whole smoke and mirrors fiasco will end up blowing up in TVNZ's collective faces.
You do have to wonder (if the recent allegations and the claims from overseas are true) what was going through his head...If he was as impulsive now as he was at 18, looking for his first job, then I think perhaps he's an individual that thinks after the act.

Especially this.
Speaking of Sean Plunket, he was one of the first to jump to Kamahl's defence when the story first appeared in Stuff, only to later change his mind when everything else started coming out.
Why does he feel the need to be a sex pest apologist? He did the same thing for Harvey Weinsten. I don't get it.

Watching Maurice Williamson in that interview just reinforces the high quality and integrity of some of our earlier politicians - compared to the mob we have now.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I don't why the media keep hammering this story he has moved on so why keep going on about it.
Which story?
