Apparently the protest action set for today by the Restore Passenger Rail Group has been cancelled.

It is cold and wet in Te Whangui-a-Tara today.

Protesting isn't inherently illegal, but actions undertaken as part of a protest or as a form of protest can most certainly be illegal. People choosing to break the law as a form of protest are by definition, criminals.

Alright, so we support the right of people to protest in any way they like as long as they don't do anything that anybody will notice. This strategy has always been famously effective in the past so why not carry on, I guess. The CCP was right to disappear tank man, he was breaking the law after all. And all those Hong Kong protestors deserve everything they get.

They should not block roads it is counter productive to their message as it annoys those they are trying to get onboard. Protest on the sides of roads, at Parliament, at the gates to airports, at the gates of freight depots.

Out of curiosity, do you support the actions of the March 2022 protestors at parliament?

I most certainly do NOT support the right of people to protest in any way they like. My personal opinion is that any protest that causes major inconvenience to the public, harms businesses or damages property should be vigorously dealt with by the police and the courts.

Yes this. The protestors right to legal protest does not supersede the rights of others to go about their lawful pursuits.

Oh come on, that's a silly argument.

Protest should be allowed that does not impinge on other people's rights nor their safety. These idiots are preventing people from being able to move freely, but worse, they are creating a risk to people's safety. People need to get to doctors or hospitals. Parents need to be able to collect children who could be waiting alone and so on. People who need to be somewhere are being placed in personal stress. How would you feel if your child missed a job interview because some clown blocked a road?

It is not hard to protest and be noticed. These protesters do not have to cause harm and loss and inconvenience to people to be noticed. They do not have a right to block roads.

No, I think they were all a bunch of f***wits. They had the right to express their f***witted point of view, but if I was PM I wouldn't have gone down to talk to them either. I think the police should have towed their cars on the first day and left them to it.

Protest organisers yesterday: “LET’S GO SOCK IT TO THOSE ENVIRONMENTAL CRIMINALS, CAUSE SOME CHAOS, SHOW THEM WE MEAN BUSINESS!!”

Protest organisers today: “it’s a bit nippy out, we’ll just stay in with a nice cuppa and a blanket...maybe even put the heater on for a bit”

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

So by the same token, the Whakatane Christmas parade, and no doubt others, should be banned as some roads are closed for that and it might inconvenience people.

Protests should be banned on pavements, as the pavement is being blocked and it might inconvenience someone.

Where, indeed, does it end.

Presumably you agree with the UKs slide into, I dunno, fascism, where you are prosecuted under a law where you are not allowed to explain your motives to a jury of your peers ?

Not true, I'm sure there were a bunch of card-carrying communists who were very upset and inconvenienced that they could not celebrate the glory of the Party in Tiananmen Square.

Post #1 - 'I don't want this to turn into a political discussion or argument - this is not been posted in the right forum for that!'

- so hows that working out then ?
