networkn: It's a bit of a laugh to term the caddy as a sportsman, he is a tactician in my opinion. He doesn't actually compete in a sport as such.

Probably not that far removed from Butterworth or Coutts then! I suppose they steer a little bit.

I think Woods is simply getting is comeuppance. I like Williams, he's a brilliant caddie, and if caddies are so valueless then why was he hung onto by Tiger for so long. I think it's a massive win for Adam Scott, the broomstick has got him to the level of his ball striking.

I think Williams could have been slightly more tactful, but, hey, CBS set it up knowing what would happen. I think it's good for Scott, let Williams have the limelight, and use him to post low numbers.

Obviously it was pretty oppressive under Woods, and for Williams to say it was the most satisfying wins is probably not far off the truth, two years of weathering a storm of crap, then probably saving Scott 6 or so strokes to help in win.

But yeah, media beat up.

Steve Williams just can't seem to keep his mouth shut, I feel embarrassed reading his comments.I am not sure what he is trying to prove? He was employed, it was a successful relationship for both parties. The relationship ended and now he is employed by someone else. Move on.

Perhaps we should introduce the teaching of such things in schools, like they do it in Europe.

The problem here, I think, was that it was more than a business relationship. They were mates.

Williams is feeling rejected and hurt.....understandably (merits or otherwise completely aside).

It would be hard to bite your tongue when you're feeling aggrieved and angry.

Well I guess that's the difference between professionals and amateurs and he should be able to separate his personal and professional relationship, and also back to the whole thing of class. He if he had class, he would air his grievance with the man directly rather than via the press which would damage the personal relationship.

networkn: evilg: He hardly got the shaft, he was fired for caddying for someone other than Tiger whilst on retainer and without even discussing it with his boss, a guy he should know better than to mess with. He was also fired for commonly making offensive comments about other golfers out of turn. Regardless of all that, he has made a lot of money working for TW, which good on him for getting himself to that place, but he isn't out of pocket and shouldn't be publicly commenting in my opinion. It's shows a lack of class and grace.

From the herald: "For all the talk about disloyalty - Williams caddied for Adam Scott at the US Open, then again at the AT&T National without seeking permission - Woods said only that it was "time for a change."

"I felt that Stevie and I have had just an amazing run," he said. "Steve is a hell of a caddie, there's no denying that. He's helped my career, and I think I've helped his, as well. Yep, I hate that too. I was at Eden Park on Saturday night, and cringed every time it happened. And if they aren't booing, people are stamping their feet to make as much noise as possible. Very poor sportsmanship shown by the Kiwi crowds. Its also hypocritical too, as many of those I saw booing would actually clap if the kick was successful, or a try was scored by the opposition.

Looks like you're not the only ones. Someone started a Facebook group!

What I find even more hilarious about that is that when the ABs are overseas and the crowd there boo Dan Carter when he is lining up his kick, the NZ commentators always make a deal about how unsportsmanlike it is. When the kiwi fans in NZ do it to the visiting kicker, the NZ commentary team never mention in.

I agree, it's important that the commentary team do this for every team. It's disgusting (booing).

I guess we could spread the word about the Facebook group. Facebook always seems to get the media fizzing. Looks like they tried to contact the Herald, but with only 45 people I guess it doesn't make a good headline! "45 embarrassed fans campaign to Ban the Boo!"
