I'm using my Nokia smartphone to surf the web, downside is the screen is a little too small for decent browsing, ergo I'd love to win the Iconia A500!

I have a Toshiba laptop that is tied to my home network so as my sole computer it now offers zero portability (which was the initial purpose). I have an old non sim Sanyo dumb phone that offers a basic ability to connect to the internet but is so cost prohibitive that it is not a viable option. This leaves me totally disconnected from the internet while away from home making the Acer Iconia A500 the perfect solution! Please consider my submission, thank you.

I'd like one of these. I've been messing with Android on a tiny Samsung of some description, and it looks promising but just too ickle and underpowered to get to grips with it.

This on the other hand.....

I've got a nexus s for a phone and a laptop which is just too big to carry comfortably to uni everyday so a tablet would be the perfect go between, and an android tablet is the only kind I want!

Nice to see giveaways like this.
My wife and I have (or at least, had) a Cruz E-Reader.
It is currently bricked. It won't boot past the Cruz logo when it is turned on. I have learnt how to install different firmware versions, and have even learned how to run ADB to asked the Android OS command line - (basically a Linux port). But Recovery reboot etc still fails me.

The Ereader worked OK for a while and is thankfully still under warranty, but here's the catch: My wife bought it at a product promo from Borders USA.

We raised a support ticket with the manufacturer, Velocity, but they are asking us to return it - which is great except for the cost of shipping from NZ to East USA.

And it appears to have died simply because the battery went flat before it could shut down properly.

Based on my experience, I would recommend Android tablets version 2.2 upward (for speed).
I would also recommend some kind of decent backup program. I hear Titanium is good, but I'm not sure if it backs up everything. No use backing up apps if the kernel gets corrupted and can't be fixed with new firmware!

As for the product itself:
- Too slow,
- And no support for newer version Android programs. Which is a problem because DRM requires newer Ereader programs.
- Size = 7 inches, a little small but OK for reading most books, just not big reference books.

In use, the product was OK. Slow, but it did its job or allowing us to read books. Just.

It came with the Borders app on it but this proved to be useless as Borders restrict sales of books to the USA and territories. You need a USA address and credit card, they check both.

I was able to use Android Marketplace to download Aidiko instead. Books were purchased elsewhere (Diesel Ebooks), and their DRM removed so I could read them on the Ereader.

That's the other gotcha. There is no upgrade path from the current Android 2.0 installed on the Cruz Ereader. So only an older version of Aidiko could be used, and it didn't support Adobe DRM. Hence the workaround of stripping the DRM from the books we purchased just so we could read them.

So it has been a huge learning experience, still going.

Only other wish: NZ ebook resellers should stop trying to rip us kiwis off. You can buy the same ebooks overseas for half the price if you know where to look. NZ companies must compete at a global price-point.

Unbelieveable that acer hasn't had more luck selling these things, if it weren't for their marketing apple would have died somewhere near commodore on the list of failed companies back in the 90's. A mate of mine's got one of these and I can't wait to throw my new nokia n8 off the tallest building in dunedin (??) and put my music and video into one of these.

People have devices that can do such wonderful things?

My StarTAC 6500 failed a number of years ago and it would be nice to have something that weighs less than and also can't make phonecalls (which the ST couldn't do for the last 6 years of it's life - could send texts though!)

Oh, I also have a Moleskine "tablet" and Cross "stylus" but it's difficult to back up............

Wow the Acer Iconia A500 sounds just like the tablet for me. Not only can I use it for everyday problems at work, I also like the idea of being able to relax at home with it to do a bit of ereading play a game or two, view some photos with the photobrowser3D or surf the net and with it' 10.1" touch screen and haveing to the Andriod market and all their apps I really like the idea of the G.P.s and Google maps on the 10.1" screen of the Tablet as it would be extremely usefull for my type of work. I also like the ability to be able to expand the 32GB memory either with the micro USB or standard USB or with the SDCard. This ACer Iconia A500 Tablet would be extremely useful to take out into the field with me and to be able to upload waypoints and other information from my G.P.S. to the Tablet and it'not oversized to carry around with you and lite too. What more could a person want.
