Pad Man... available on Netflix. 7/10

Great story really. Movie is mostly in Hindi with subtitles but we didn't mind.

It's a "you can do anything if you put your mind to it" movie. Something different.

Greenland (Amazon Prime Video)

Standard Gerard Butler "end of the world" stuff.

Well shot, fairly gripping, a bit stressful but it all turns out OK in the end.

5/10

I just finished watching this. Would actually give it a 6. Would have been a 7 but the movie is about two minutes too long - undoubtedly to please an American audience :(

Hotel Coolgardie on Amazon Prime.

Documentary movie showing the effect of too much hot sun, flies, boredom, booze, isolation, sexism, filth, exploitation on the human psyche.  As they say, truth is stranger than fiction - more frightening too perhaps.

From the Wikipedia page about the town:

The development of a tourist industry has once again created some employment in the town, resulting in a small increase in population. Coolgardie appears to be no longer in danger of dying.

I think whoever added that entry has seen the movie - and has a very dry sense of humour.

Joker DVD 9/10

Watched this powerful movie for the second time and it has lost none of it's impact.

Astonishing performance from Joaquin Phoenix. Fully deserved Best Actor.

I think I am going to have to rewatch this.

I really didn't like it, but I think a lot of that has to do with the hype surrounding it at the time of its release.

I think the close association to Batman made it hard too, because it's really not about that side of the story at all...it's just a chronicle of a man's descent into madness.

I didn't really love it either. I think I gave it a 6 or 7. The performance was great, no doubt, but the story just didn't do anything for me.

Gandhi - 9/10 - Netflix. First time I have watched this movie since its release in 1982.

Just a really great movie in every way. A lot of great English actors who have since gone on to a greater stage.

Bottle Shock 6/10 TV+ 0.99c rental.

The story of the early days of California wine making featuring the now infamous, blind Paris wine tasting of 1976 that has come to be known as "Judgment of Paris".

Veery average movie and performances from; Chris Pine, Alan Rickman & Bill Pullman

Dolittle (2020) 5/10 Netflix.

A physician who can talk to animals and with his young apprentice and a crew of strange pets, embark on an adventure to find a mythical island to obtain a cure for the dying young Queen Victoria,

I just hope the actors got paid well, cause they did not deserve it and these are usually good to great actors. Robert Downey Jr was appalling.

Mrs Doubtfire with MS 9 and Master 12. Both were shocked at the bad language and were disturbed by some themes, but otherwise really enjoyed it. Many laugh our loud moments for us and the kids.

Robin Williams really was in a class of his own, I can't think of another with his versatility. He very occasionally does this thing with his eyes, and there is just something magic about it.  It's a great loss he won't produce anything else new.

Liar Liar and Patch Adams will be next.

Interesting thing (to me). Robin Williams opened Planet Hollywood in Auckland New Years 2K. Walking home from finishing up the final preparations of a Y2K upgrade, I was busy reading my phone and walked straight across and bumped into him on the red carpet. Totally accidentally. Nearly knocked him over. I am no giant but he was tiny.  I was so shocked it was him, I mostly just apologised and kept walking. Didn't registered properly until about 20 minutes later.

I've watched all of them a shed load of times and they are all great entertainment.

The shot of the jump from a roof top down thru a window is just a timeless classic.
