The Harder they Fall [Netflix]  Really enjoyed this . Influenced by Tarantino and although it is the basic plot of every Western made it still feels fresh and even the modern music fits.

8/10

I also enjoyed this one.  Heavily stylized with modern language and soundtrack, but somehow it all worked together to make a very enjoyable film.  The acting was top-class, as was the cinematography.   8/10.

Old 2021 - M. Night Shyamalan

In line with his prior work, with the obligatory twist etc. Was OK, some pretty horrifying parts

7/10

Superintelligence Sky Movies. 1/10.

Even diehard Melissa McCarthy fans (if there is such a group) would struggle with this one. Story of an omnipresent AI that has become sentient and needs to observe “an average person” to determine “what to do about the human race”. Formulaic, with unfunny physical and verbal comedy.

Can’t spoil it for anyone because I gave up after 45 minutes. (Yes, I know, it was a struggle to get to that point).

Yeah surprisingly quite enjoyed this. The movie without the 'twist' was good in it's own right as an almost horror. Twist, take it or leave it.

Also watched Army of Thieves. Actually really liked it - the two man actors carried it - without them I think it would have been quite poor as the story and characters were paper thin. It was 'fun', unlike Snyder movies even though it's part of his universe.

Mark:

I'm trying to watch "Cosmic Sin" on Netflix ... oh god it is utter drivel!   Bruce Willis must be short of cash or something.

I like bad movies, but this one just makes no sense at all, it's all over the place and seems to be missing huge bits of plot .. maybe the editor got carried away.

I watched this a week or so ago.

I thought the IMDB reviews were being harsh...until I saw it.

There's no continuity, it feels like you've missed bits of the movie at times, as it jumps from thing to thing and a comment I saw about most of the movie content featuring Willis appears to have been shot without his supporting actors is actually quite credible, after thinking about it. Often, there's just the back of a bald guy's head in shot with the others - he barely interacts with another cast member.

As for the plot...please tell me if you ever find it.

1/2 out of 10 for me.

We also watched a movie on Prime Video (I think) called The Con is On

It had a bit of a star-studded cast: Uma Thurman, Tim Roth, Stephen Fry, Maggie Q, Alice Eve, Crispin Glover etc

It was...odd, but enjoyable. It felt a little like a modern remake of something, but it may not have been.

Basically, a couple of grifters get in some trouble in London with a global baddy and they flee to LA to try and get some cash together and lay low.

It's OK - Tim Roth is...mostly off his chops throughout. Uma Thurman is posh English through the movie which she does an OK job of.

Over all I'd probably rate it 6/10

Finch on Apple TV starring Tom Hanks

Like most reviews have stated - it's a sort of a cross between Castway and Wall-E although I was really, really, really hoping it would take some inspiration from A Boy and his Dog but, no, they took the safe route.

Ok to kill a couple of hours. 6.5/10

Free Guy - NEON - 7/10

A bank teller discovers that he's actually an NPC inside a brutal, open world video game with Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi.

Very interesting concept and cleverly done, though it was starting to wear a bit thin towards the end.

Red Notice - Netflix - 5/10

An Interpol agent tracks the world's most wanted art thief with Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson.

Oh dear - Indiana Jones turned into a very bad comedic romp. And don't forget the Indiana Jones rip-offs throughout. I persevered with it till the end, then went straight to bed and starting reading "This Much is True", Miriam Margolyes autobiography. Chalk and cheese in the comedy stacks.

Shang-Chi (Disney+) 6/10

Bit of a Marvel misfire. Went into viewing with very little knowledge just wanting to be entertained. Wasn’t invested in any of the formulaic and one dimensional characters. Some good action sequences but also fight scenes for the sake of fight scenes.

Rescued somewhat by cleverly injected humour and great cgi.

So obviously designed for the Chinese box office.

Mission Impossible meets Fast and Furious meets Indiana Jones.  Found it an enjoyable enough action/heist/comedy romp with the 3 charismatic leads, corny one-liners, and some laugh out loud moments, particularly one cameo (I will say no more).  The Rock and Ryan Reynolds slotting into their usual wise-cracking characters and Gal filling in the blanks and providing a bit of class.  Great fun for a rainy afternoon.  7/10 for shear good fun entertainment value when your brain needs a rest.

Best described as dumb fun - the reviews aren't great but there's nothing inherently wrong with the movie, just nothing special about it. It did try and squeeze in a large number of movie tropes from parkour, car chase (sort of), heist, prison escape, indiana jones treasure hunt, flashy ball, you name it.

Mild spoiler:

Two bits I thought were particularly clever was the Rock in his car chase and Ryan Reynold's Macguffin line.

Better than a lot of recent action movies I've seen of late (I'm looking at you Mr Willis and Mr Wahlberg)

The Gentlemen 7/10 Netflix

Guy Ritchie goes back to his London gangster roots with Matthew McConaughey starring as a drug lord trying to sell his empire and exit the business. Usual Ritchie gangster storyline with lots of twists and turns with Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant along for the ride.

Watchable but not up to the standard of Snatch or the hugely enjoyable Rock 'n Rolla.

I might nudge this to a 7.5/10 - Great fun and an incredible cast.

Watched "The Hunt" last night on Netflix. Wasn't quite what I expected but I was in a B Movie mood and this was actually a hell of a lot better than that. Great twists and kept things short and sharp.

Jack Reacher, Netflix. Got very boring and predictable. The foot chase at the end dragged on far too long - I saw it had 20 minutes or so left and just skipped the rest.

4/10
