I watched the first episode of Daredevil on Netflix.  I found it to be very dark and grim, which I think is quite deliberate.  But I also found it kind of dull and not that entertaining.  I'm trying to persevere (part-way through episode 2) in the hope that I'll catch on, given how well it seems to be received.  But so far I'm not getting what's so great about it.  Does it get better soon?

Part of the reason I'm watching it is because I want to watch Jessica Jones, and it seems like they're related.  Is there any benefit to watching DD first, or can you jump into JJ straight away and not miss much?

Can't say I've seen Daredevil  (but haven't done so partly as I've heard similarly negative comments), but have watched Jessica Jones and had no sense as to having missed something critical.

JJ was fantastic, and I'm looking forward to a second series.

I suggest you've not nothing to lose by cutting your losses and moving onto JJ now - life's too short to watch programmes you aren't totally enjoying - there's just too much good content available now to warrant this.

Struggled with the first few episodes but ended up loving it. Watched 5 episodes of season 2 in one day

Daredevil is very good but slow early on. It builds to a very exciting conclusion and once Vincent D'Onofrio is introduced he is tremendous.

Saying that there is nothing to be gained by watching it before Jessica Jones, they are in the same universe but not linked (yet).

'The Night Manager' on BBC - based on a John le Carré novel. Brilliant mini-series of six episodes, with Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston.

We watched 2 episodes of Thirteen last night, straight after the final of The Night Manager on iplayer. EXCEPTIONAL so far. Highly recommended and makes you wonder where this is going to go.

Childhood's End

3 part mini series

Science fiction 2015

iTunes/TV (US)

It's an interesting twist on world invasion.

First and foremost, it’s a science fiction drama. If you are after some sci-fi action, look elsewhere.

I would even brand it a dark comedy. Popping out the far side of part 3, I couldn’t help but smirk a little over the final conclusion.

A certain segment of viewers will take offence to the religious flavor which gets introduced at the end of part one and plays a major role for the rest of the show.

I personally found the show very enjoyable and worth a few hours of my meager life. They have thrown a few dollars at this show and the acting was acceptable.

8/10

P.S. It's really hard to find decent science fiction these days.

The Ranch on Netflix... was ready to turn it off if the second episode didn't end up better than the first.

Ended up binge-watching the whole series and found it enjoyable!

Yes, Lucifer started ok but now it's just annoying.

Catastrophe is back on Amazon Instant Video tonight and season 1 was kind of funny.

Watching DareDevil on Netflix, season 2 now. He takes too much beating and the fights take too long. Getting annoying.

Watching Grimm on Amazon Instant Video. Some interesting mix of terror and reality but the main story arc is tiring already on Season 2 - how did they manage to run five seasons so far?

WD season finale.  This season actually surprised me a bit.

But the finale .... it was obvious all day the RV was being herded and the ending reverted to the 'surrounded with no way out' formula.

It's like the writers have run out of ideas so they have veteran characters making rookie mistakes.

Yeah, there's been a lot to like about this season, and a lot to loathe too. The whole Glenn bait and switch thing was pretty lame. And Carol's sudden complete change of character. Not to mention all the obviously boneheaded decisions from some of the season regulars. These seemed like nothing more than a mechanic by the scriptwriters to inject tension where there shouldn't have been any, if the characters had all been performing to their true types.

Also, the finale did not need to be anywhere near as long as it was. Especially considering it didn't really go anywhere, apart from unsubtly ram home the point of how out of depth Rick is, when dealing with a group who have proven to be woefully incompetent during times when the scriptwriters have needed to draw things out.

Those new "Knight" characters may be interesting though. That's one development that hadn't been telegraphed weeks in advance.

WD?

The Walking Dead. Originally compelling character driven show set in a zombie riddled apocalyptic World, which has morphed into an audience trolling device.

I wonder, are you a comic reader?

I've been itching for Negan to show up since Terminus.  Last night's finale was everything I wanted as a comic reader, and more.  It was perfection, and Negan - I was so worried leading up to this but the performance was excellent.  I don't care about the fact that the victim isn't known, there's plenty of clues to lead to it being Darryl though.  I can see how people who've only known the TV show would be disappointed but really for me this was an absolutely perfect intro to one of the greatest fictional villains of all time.

EDIT: Oh and why is no-one talking about the fact that Trevor from GTA5 was heavily featured in this episode!  TREVOR!!!
