The primary point in your comment was logically fallacious - so don't expect it to go unchallenged, then defend yourself by claiming that I'm nitpicking.

In any case, effectively arguing that the choice of an individual not to breed (for any reason) is going against "nature" in an arguably overpopulated world - seems to be a very silly position to base any argument. Our species is hardly under threat of extinction due to people consciously choosing not to have kids. Probably the reverse.

I must then apologise, I didn't realise you were an expert (possibly even published) in animal behavior, human biology or sociology. I can only assume this by the way to call my opinion fallacious.

Anyhow, just like MikeB4, but for very different reasons, I shall exit the echo chamber.

The other day I noticed an item about America's bird population having plummeted by 30%. There were some shock/horror reactions but no apparent widespread hue and cry. I'm not sure if it even got a mention here.

People talk about the boiling frog effect. I wonder if the crashing bird population is yet another roar of nature that it is already too late? Who will "get this"? Someone in a Holden Colorado maybe? Or are they all consumed with rage at Greta Thunberg as they race up the mountaintop?

Possible. I think something like that was mentioned as a possibility, but they don't really know. Of course I can't remember where I saw it, but probably on CNN.

As a middle-aged privileged male, one thing I won't be doing is reacting to the passionate UN speech of a 16 year old girl by condemning teenagers for believing in something, by "putting her in her place" by saying she should be at school, doing the dishes etc, dismissing what she said by attacking her and all young people who express their opinion.
To Duncan Garner, Mike Hosking, Martin van Beynan, Jeremy Clarkson and the rest of them that have been triggered and reacted with ad-hominen attacks. What bloody awful parents you would be. What dreadful examples of middle aged privileged male arrogance.

Actually combating climate change in any meaningful way means sacrifice, giving up things, changing the way we live. It doesn't have to mean a miserable existence, but it does mean change. Selfish old conservative men don't like that. Neither do the rest of us, but older privileged males seem to have the hardest time with it. For that reason I believe that controlled change is unlikely to happen. Instead, we will grimly cling on to the old ways of doing things until the bitter end, ignoring the cries of our children. Instead of controlled change, there will be catastrophic change as the systems that sustain us collapse. It will still be change, though.

I dont think that older and white means bad. I think that domain is the far right, and probably older, the ones that were forced to deal with IT. Those that were kids or young adults when PC's became mainstream are used to change, change is normal. Early adopter, etc. Yes, there will be exceptions in any demographic

Humans tend to be selfish. An article about Welly today. A large area was up for urbanisation (rural land to taller, denser housing)but the owners shut it down. We all agree but its NIMBY

...A new study in the journal Science reports that nearly 3 billion North American birds have disappeared since 1970. That’s 29 percent of all birds on this continent. Marra meant when they wrote, in an opinion piece for The Times, that “Birds are indicator species, serving as acutely sensitive barometers of environmental health, and their mass declines signal that the earth’s biological systems are in trouble.”

There wasn't a LOT of detail in the Ted X talk I saw about Nuclear power, but he was pretty plain about the fact birds, bees and many other types of insects were being badly affected by huge Wind and Solar installations.

I am unsure if they are related specifically to this latest report on birds, but I guess it's all contributing.

I am unsure if they are related specifically to this latest report on birds, but I guess it's all contributing.

My guess would be that effects of solar and windmills etc on bird population would be pretty minimal overall - or at worst local, but the reduction in bird (and probably originally insect) population seems to be global. Possibly a combination of habitat loss (some of which could be caused by CC) and large scale monoculture farming using (very effective) insecticides.

Climate change will probably have devastating effects on some migratory birds, if they're stopping on their seasonal migration route to feed and the food isn't there any more because of a change in climate, then they're doomed.
