BULLET TRAIN 8/10

A tongue in cheek romp on a train. Brad Pitt & Co seemed to be thoroughly enjoying their roles in this over the top comedy/action film.

I laughed out loud at some of the situations the characters got themselves into. A totally unbelievable storyline, but hugely entertaining, with some cringingly funny interaction between the several antagonists.

One for action fans, with the addition of some whimsical scenes, and the occasional cameo appearance.

Vanity Fair: Why Is Everyone So Obsessed With M3GAN?

There's a new It girl sweeping the nation. No, it's not another Hadid or a Kardashian, but a M3gan (i.e. Megan), the titular character in Blumhouse's forthcoming [filmed in New Zealand] horror film about an anthropomorphic doll who's mission is apparently to slay all day.

The horror film starring [Kiwi] Alison Williams about an evil doll doesn't come out till January, but M3GAN and her dance moves have already captured the attention of the USA.

New Zealand Herald: Viral trailer for new horror film M3GAN reveals Kiwi connection

The first trailer for new horror movie M3GAN has been released - and there are a number of surprising Kiwi connections fans have spotted in the clip.

The movie, filmed in New Zealand, tells the story of an AI doll named M3GAN - a shorthand for "Model 3 Generative" - whose attempts to protect a young girl quickly turn deadly.

The trailer quickly went viral for featuring Taylor Swift's 2019 song It's Nice to Have a Friend as its soundtrack, as well as the doll's creepy dance moves.

The impressive movements were performed by 12-year-old Kiwi dancer Amie Donald. It's her big-screen acting debut, though she previously starred in Robert Downey Jr's Netflix series Sweet Tooth, also filmed in New Zealand.

Good Luck To You, Leo Grande - 9.5/10

I think this film is my contender for film of the year.  And that's in the same year that saw Top Gun: Maverick released.

It's a self-contained "comedy/drama" film with an intensely small cast.  It's one of those films which could easily be a stage show, because there really only are one or two sets.  The plot revolves around "Nancy", an older woman who secures the sexual services of "Leo Grande." Without giving too much away, Nancy has never had a fulfilling sexual experience, and now two years after her husband died she is finally getting around to it.

Emma Thompson takes the role of Nancy, and delivers an exceptional performance.  Daryl McCormack (a relative unknown, to me at least) plays Leo Grande and manages to convey both the suave confidence and the subtle vulnerability of his character with such fluid ease.  Both actors present a really compelling performance.

There are genuinely funny moments, touchingly tender moments, and excellent character developments.  It's such a refreshing experience, and made me realise how rare it is these days to come into a film with little knowledge, enjoy a very well told story, and emerge completely satisfied (pun intended).

When it was released here, back at the end of August, I figured it would have a run of just a week or so in theatres.  But it's still screening 7 weeks later, which I think demonstrates how good it is.

Werewolf by Night 8/10 Disney

Follows a lycanthrope superhero who fights evil using the abilities given to him by a curse brought on by his bloodline.

A delightful hour long horror comedy starring one of my favourite versatile foreign actors of Y tu mamá también, The Motorcycle Diaries & Bad Education to name a few.

The Sound of 007 8/10 Prime Video

Follows the remarkable history of six decades of James Bond music, going behind the lens into one of the greatest movie franchise and the iconic 007 theme song.

Who knew that diamonds refer to the male genitalia 🤷‍♂️

Quite liked the Indian Classical Instrument version of the Bond theme tune.

' Accident Man Hitman's Holiday ' {2022} was a top watch... some gory parts as you'd expect, but a lot of laughs in it, hilarious movie.

The Accident Man, must beat the top assassins in the world, to protect the ungrateful son of a mafia boss, save the life of his only friend and rekindle his relationship with his maniacal father figure.

Started to watch Thor, Love and Thunder and surrendered after about 15-20 minutes, a truly awful movie.

Thor : Love and Thunder - as above, got about 20mins in and turned it off.... just didnt have the same sort of appeal as the last one.

Black Adam : was "meh". Couldve left the mother and kid out of it as their part in the movie lent nothing to the story really. 5/10 - note: having some background on DC characters helps, as none have "introductions" as such in this movie.

RRR (2022) - IMDb (on Netflix)

Indian movie, set in the 1930s. Quite entertaining. Lots of special effects, some interesting fight scenes. Give it a 7.5/10

I have to ask...as it's a movie starring Adkins. Was it supposed to be funny?

Table 19

Watched this "comedy" in the weekend on one of the streaming platforms (can't remember which one).

Was...OK.

Starred Anna Kendrick, Stephen Merchant, Lisa Kudrow and a cast of quite good supporting actors.

It was more drama than comedy and was a bit soppy, but had its funny moments - mostly courtesy of either Merchant, or Tony Revolori, who was constantly on the phone to his mother (who we never see).

6/10 from me. Could have been funnier but was also a bit too predictable.

Over acted by most and bad acting by some. With bad CGI and VERY OBVIOUS choreographed fight scenes. 5/10. The mob ladies son should have been culled at birth.

It's no more over acted than any other Action-comedy... let's be honest there's a ton of movies out there that anyone could punch holes in.
