Mare of Easttown DVD 7.5/10
Good murder mystery with Kate Winslett excellent in the lead role hunting a killer or killers while carrying a lot of personal baggage. The only thing I've got against it is that every single character was overloaded with baggage.
I've had time to watch a few films this week.
EMILY THE CRIMINAL (2022) 7/10
Emily, who is saddled with student debt and locked out of the job market due to a minor criminal record, gets involved in a credit card scam that pulls her into the criminal underworld of Los Angeles, ultimately leading to deadly consequences.
I enjoyed this slow paced Thriller. Aubrey Plaza is excellent as Emily.
LAST SEEN ALIVE (2022) 7/10
After Will Spann’s wife suddenly vanishes at a gas station, his desperate search to find her leads him down a dark path that forces him to run from authorities and take the law into his own hands.
Gerard Butler is building quite a collection of action films, most of them are forgettable, but this is a step up from the norm IMO. Although its a TAKEN copycat, and somewhat predictable, its runtime of 95 minutes (inc. credits) was quite entertaining.
BEAST (2022) 6/10
A recently widowed man and his two teenage daughters travel to a game reserve in South Africa. However, their journey of healing soon turns into a fight for survival when a bloodthirsty lion starts to stalk them.
The attraction of this film is the beautiful jungle backdrops. There are plenty of action scenes, but the characters make some really dumb decisions along the way. Still, it had enough thrills to keep me interested.
JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION (2021) 4/10
Four years after Isla Nublar was destroyed, dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.
A very disappointing third film in the franchise (hopefully the last). JURASSIC WORLD was a very enjoyable addition to the "Jurassic" franchise, followed by a backward step which was "Fallen Kingdom", and now an absolutely needless third film.

THE CONTRACTOR (2022) 5/10
After being involuntarily discharged from the U.S. Special Forces, James Harper decides to support his family by joining a private contracting organization alongside his best friend and under the command of a fellow veteran. Overseas on a covert mission, Harper must evade those trying to kill him while making his way back home.
Although I didn't think that I wasted my time watching this action movie; i've seen it all before, and done much better. Chris Pine and Ben Foster just didn't seem to click somehow. Save this one until you have seen most of your library, and need something to watch.

The contractor is on Prime video UHD. Don’t know how long will be there for, so if have Prime probably best not to wait to long. Enjoyed it, but don’t think it’s worth $8 or so if renting.
Seen a lot of negatives on latest Jurassic one, so will wait for 99 cent deal or see if turns up on streaming service.
Watched latest Black Panther at movies, enjoyed it but found the story concept a little weak including ending. Make an enemy of someone to get them to help you, I don’t get it. Won’t say any more as don’t wish to ruin it. 6/10
DOWNTON ABBEY: A New Era (2022) 7/10
The Crawley family goes on a grand journey to the south of France to uncover the mystery of the dowager countess’s newly inherited villa.
Nothing much on TV last night, so my wife suggested that we watch a movie. We (she) decided on DOWNTON ABBEY: A New Era 'cos she has seen all of the TV series. I quite enjoyed it, although I would never have watched it on my own. Light entertainment, period piece, good acting, what more could a man ask for 😁
Seriously though, it is a decent relaxing watch, but it helps if you have seen the TV series, and know the various characters history.

Sharp Objects - DVD - 7/10
Angst ridden murder mystery starring Amy Adams playing a reporter who returns to her small hometown to report on a couple of murders of young girls. She has enough personal problems for ten people from a family with enough problems for 10 families.
Adams though puts in an excellent performance. All the episodes up to the last are well paced and atmospheric but the last episode seems to be a bit of a rush to tie up all the loose ends in a rather unsatisfying and unlikely way.
PREY (2022) 8/10
On the Great Plains in 1719, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled Comanche warrior, sets out to protect her people when an unknown danger threatens them. But the prey she’s stalking turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal.
I suppose I could call this film a prequel to Arnie's 1987 PREDATOR movie.... and its gooooood. Not for the squeamish, there are many graphic scenes which I would expect to see in a movie of this ilk. Largely an unknown cast to myself, but Amber Midthunder is excellent as Naru. If you like to watch films with lots of action and a large body count (dissected in several ways), then this one is for you.
Oh, almost forgot. For those of you with a decent subwoofer, there are some scenes with thundering bass. Turn the volume up!

Watched Black Panther - Wakanda Forever in 3D at the movies last night.
I enjoyed it. The only thing I wasn't sure about was the big fight scene - it seemed to happen and end with no real preamble.
Overall a solid Marvel movie, but I wasn't a huge fan of the original, so this sits firmly with that one. 6/10
Edit: They dealt with the loss of Chadwick Boseman very well at the start of the film.
Handsome Dan Has Spoken.
Handsome Dan needs to stop adding three dots to every sentence...
Handsome Dan does not currently have a side hustle as the mascot for Yale

RRR - Really not sure what to make of this movie; but the action was over the top in a fun way, and it kept me entertained the entire time.
The disappointing part is that Netflix doesn't have the original language track, which seems weird. It was filmed in Telugu, and I would have rather watched it with that audio and English subtitles. But the only options were either an English dub, or a Hindi dub with English subtitles. I went for the English dub, and feel it did detract from the experience.
7/10
The Gray Man - DVD - 6/10
Ryan Gosling action movie. Trouble is there is pretty well nothing but action and a couple of hours of car chases, explosions and fights gets a bit boring.

I watched the Hindi dub with English subtitles, and that worked for me. I wouldn't recommend going with an English dub - it does sound like it would have messed it up. I found that watching the first ep of Squid Games and never bothered with ep 2 as a result.
There is talk of a sequel in development, which would be fun to see.

Mare of Easttown DVD 7.5/10
Good murder mystery with Kate Winslett excellent in the lead role hunting a killer or killers while carrying a lot of personal baggage. The only thing I've got against it is that every single character was overloaded with baggage.
This is a TV show, for anyone reading this later and looking for it.

Quite right - wrong thread. So is the one I posted above, Sharp Objects.

That just seemed like it would have been the worst of both worlds. Dialogue doesn't match lip movements AND have to read subtitles!
Sidenote: Squid Games well worth watching (in original Korean and English subtitles).
