The Road To Perdition - DVD - 8/10
Same Mendes directs a 1930's mob drama starring Tom Hanks, Paul Newman and Daniel Craig. Good story, excellent acting all round. Pretty violent but in the normal Tom Hanks sort of way so not disagreeable.
A very pleasant way to while away a couple of hours.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery 2022 ‧ Mystery/Crime ‧ 2h 19m
As awful as the first one was good.
A tedious all star hamfest,
This reminded me of the equally smug Ocean films by Soderberg.
Bad Santa - DVD - 8/10
Not one for the family but one of the funniest Christmas movies ever. Billy Bob Thornton is perfect.

Strangely I quite enjoyed it although I figured out the bad guy long before the end. Not the case with the first one.
I enjoyed it way more than the first.
kingdragonfly: I got to watch this UK TV4 special

We totally agree. We are very thankful we didn’t spend any money at a movie theatre.
Despite a suitably convoluted setup, this is not primarily a murder mystery. The mystery of the murder we see is set like an extremely short stage play which left us with only two suspects, and one was the murderer.
Instead, the movie squanders most of its running time building up the absurd premise that is the basis for the climactic finale. It is a very stupid story.
gehenna: I saw Avatar at Queensgate IMAX yesterday.
It's the most terribly written movie that absolutely everyone must see. Especially at IMAX. This is not like pre-pandemic 3d.
The HFR is glorious but changes back and forth between 24fps a lot, which is jarring until you get used to it. But hopefully this is a tipping point for hfr in that general audiences might wonder why it goes from looking smooth and crisp to juddery in the next shot. If they can see the actual differences between legacy and hfr in real-time that might actually help to convince people it's better.
Queensgate IMAX itself is great, super lucky to have that up the road now.
I saw this yesterday so your comment makes total sense.
It's a masterpiece with the visual artists making the most of the fantastic underwater worlds they got to create. The 3D action is pretty good and the animation is almost universally quite believable.
But the story yeah, it's let's say, dances with smurfs on the titanic.
But $100 for 4 people. Sheesh. And that wasnt imax.

Just watched this on Netflix last night - truly awful. 3/10
Decided to start watching some Star Wars now and keep going while recovering... Of course watched before when released and later on streaming but why not?
Star Wars Ep 1: Phantom Menace (1999) - the story is ok but Jar Jar Binks is a character we don't need. Ever. And an entire planet would elect a 15 - 19 years old as their "queen"? 5/10
Star Wars Ep II: Attack of the Clones (2002) - seriously, Anakin is an entitled teenager. He would be a great emo person on TikTok. And we are to believe that a senator, previously elected (?) queen, would fall for a six to ten years younger whiny, entitled narcissistic idiot, who keeps giving all the signs of being a complete psycho? And the delivery. My $deity, the lines are delivered like they are reading from a book for children in bed. Total sad cringe. I felt bad for the actors. This one can get a 3.5/10 for all I care.

Spy - DVD - 7.5/10
Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law, Jason Statham and Rose Byrne star in a spy spoof that I've watched a few times and it always makes me laugh. Jason Statham is a pretty good comic actor.
Everybody's sense of humour is different so it won't appeal to everyone.
Collateral - DVD - 7.5/10
Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx star in a thriller where Tom is a hitman who takes a ride in Jamie Foxx's cab. Cruise is a baddie for a change and a very believable one.
