antoniosk: Putting aside the noise on gift cards - atrocious things that should be banned, especially when stores insist on giving refunds as 'store credit', looking at you Farmers! - and the general commentary on stock, staff training, nasty pricing etc.... I wonder where to next?
DSE has got some good retail real estate in welly and Auckland, there is convenience for people in using retail stores that will always beat the order online and take delivery x days later. My confusion with dse was always around what they were trying to be and for who. The days of hobbyist electronics has declined and jaycar owns that space now, although their Wellington location isn't convenient (good old Wiseman electrical....). Jbhifi and Noel Warehouse are continuing to push into the mainstream space - did you ever think Noel's would be a premium Apple partner ? They are becoming a destination store... Even if they are a little inconveniently placed (Tory st).
Against this backdrop, how is dse offering something no one else is? Jbhifi and Noel's are not cheap except when they push specials, and even then you need to be on the ball and do a lot of research.

tdgeek:I think that sums it up. If you want consumer electronics, you have Noels, Harveys, Bond, The Warehouse, add in JBHifi, and its covered. Jaycar has the hobby/parts space. DSE is a bit of everything but an "after the other ones" choice for the mainstream, if not everybody.

To be fair, we no longer have the options of Bond's...
dolsen: So, are there any deals currently to be had?
On this page (stuff), someone is quoted as saying "I came looking for some things at the right price and found them". Not sure if there were any fire / inferno sales still continuing, or, need to wait a bit.
Bad news for the staff and investors, however, the actual store has been quite useless for me for a while now. Luckily, I had warned people I knew not to buy DS gift cards due to the risk before Christmas.

Bonds was just Noels in disguise so they could sell all brands of whiteware
Used to be if you wanted to sell F&P you could not sell a lot of competing brands too.

t the early 1960s....
tripp: The thing that gets me is that management said sales numbers were not as they expected for December sales.
Well 1 reason for that is because staff did not update the labels on items, there were a number of items that had the RRP but you would only know if they were on sale if someone posted a pic on here or you made them scan each item you were looking at (which the staff hated).
More than once from a couple of different shops I asked to look at the price listing to see if there was anything and both times was told "we did not get one" or just blank looks.
