Well, just hope that less well off families and especially kids have got in and spent their gift cards before all this happened.   In the case of kids that's pretty likely I'd say.
Also, tough for the staff, some of whom are hard working and try to do a good job.

As for the outcome of the receivership I read on another site that there are only 3 options.   In layman's terms these being Liquidation - selling the stuff they have got.    Sale to another company or buyer.    Or the Receiver hands back the company to the directors.   (the third option rarely happens it seems!)     In my opinion DSE is a damaged brand for these reasons.

1.)   Nerds, and those who think they are nerds, have been telling their friends and relatives for years that DSE is a not the place it used to be.
2.)   Talk to the TechExperts slogan just annoyed a lot of people.
3.)   Their tech service counter proved to be a fizzer because it was only manned part of the time.
4.)   Dropping their 14 day right of return a few years ago annoyed many people.
5.)   Extended warranties being pushed excessively and arrogant sales people arguing with customers about the relevance of the Consumers Guarantee Act.
6.)   Removal of photo printing services.    Yes, I know it may have been running at a loss but it still annoyed people to see it gone.
7.)   An ever narrowing range of tech. products.
8.)   Getting out of gaming products meant a lot of teenagers would not bother to go in there any more.
9.)   Starting to sell frigging kitchen gadgets.
10.)  All the above contributed to the impression that DSE was becoming an unpleasant place to shop.

So, if the business is sold I'd say they will need a complete re-branding and name to start with.   Maybe the 'Sir Ed and Richie McCaw Gadget Emporium'?

And, another thing is that many of the DSE stores are located in long term high rent locations, something for a potential buyer to think long and hard about.
I think some of those Westfield leases are seven or nine years depending on the store size and other factors.
