What the foxtrot is wrong with people?!

Mum and dad's "friends" invited them around a few nights ago. After they'd been there for half an hour or so, one of them mentions in passing that she has Covid. Now dad's showing symptoms.

Hard to believe. Stupid and selfish. You have my sympathy. I hope your parents get through this okay.

Awful thoughtless people. Hope your parents get through as easily as we did.

My whisky tango was getting invited to a funeral memorial of a well off but miserly individual's wife. Instead of ordering some sammies and savouries from New World at worst, or catered at best, all the guests were asked to bring their own food and alcohol to his home. The offspring a chip off the old block obviously concurred and sent out the invites. Am I out of touch with how it’s now done?

The invitees all equally disgusted figured he has discovered a way to take his wealth with him. A full head of titanium dental implants maybe...

The "greedy" landlords next door are adding another "hut" to the two single ones already in the back yard of a 3 bedroom house.

The latest one is 2 rooms with built in wardrobes being built in situ. The other 2 were craned in! (Sitting on an existing concrete pad.

They have framed it, then clad the walls BEFORE the roof is on. We've had showers for the last few days!

No roof yet! But scaffolding is up for it.

Update to above:

Still no roof and has been raining this evening with strong gusty winds!

Must find out who the Building Company is so I know who NOT to recommend!

I have a feeling that's a building inspection violation. Probably no builder and two or three different parties doing exactly what the owner told them in spite of saying this is a dumb idea.

Americans are going crazy because petrol has hit a record-breaking US$5 a gallon. Unless I am way off (always possible), that works out to about $1.20 of our money for a litre. Poor Americans.

(I lived in America in my distant youth. I actually remember when it was 29 cents a gallon!)

US Gallon = 3.785 litres. US$5 per US Gallon = Just over US$1.30 per litre. (NZ$2.30)

You can type "5 usd per gallon in nzd per litre" into Google and it returns $2.07 as of this moment.

Thanks for the correction. It makes more sense. I am prone to brain fades in my old age.

So a family member has had a burglary and had some expensive specialist equipment stolen from their home. They have seen the most expensive of these items advertised on Facebook Marketplace along with the face of the seller in one of the photos. This info has been taken to police, but no action is being taken. Is this how it is now? If it's not a ram-raid, or a gang shooting no one cares? Yes they have insurance, but that is just passing the cost onto policyholders when potentially the stolen items are actually recoverable right now.

They know that the item on FB is theirs because?

Often customised/personalised equipment is quite identifiable. Could be plastered with stickers, could be a particular combination of parts that's very unusual. Could even just be that they know the serial and it's visible.

Years ago when I had a lot of stereo gear and HT stuff, on each piece I would cut three 3mm incisions on the bottom back edge of the case with a hacksaw. Pretty much unnoticeable but identifiable as mine. Fortunately never had to use them.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
