Went to IMAX in Lower Hutt to see “The Flash” with a friend who is a super-hero movie fan. IMAX took it from 5/10 to 8/10. However, bad CGI does become a lot more obvious on the larger screen.
Dune: Part 2 arriving November 2023
Trailers on YouTube
Also it appears that there will be a Part 3 which is the film adaption of "The Messiah of Dune" by the same production team. No release date as yet.
As I stated back in September 2022 "Have always enjoyed Dune. I have all books and the original 1984 & 2021 movies. I look forward to the next 2023 movie in this series. As you say the CGI is fantastic. Even what CGI they used in the 1984 movie was still good."
Dune: Part 1, I thoroughly enjoyed and gave it 9/10. Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides was excellent. The story sticks very well to the original books, which would not have been easy as they are long and complicated. The CGI was suburb along with all the other actors.
Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

There was also a 2000 mini series with William Hurt which was pretty good and also spawned a follow up series Children of Dune

Sorry maybe I should of given a link to my original post. Here is what I said about the 2000 mini series with William Hurt:
"However - I have recently acquired the 2000 Dune and 2003 Children of Dune, a 3 part each mini series made for TV. The green or blue screen was appalling, which apart from internal shots, was most of the viewing. (film on film mostly). Then there was the acting - William Hurt was just very average, probably due to the fact he was acting in front of, well, nothing and therefore had no frame of reference. The costumes were school amateur hour. The internal sets were mostly ok. I did not watch each series in their entirety as I was so turned off by it all."

This looks epic.
I will definitely have to revisit the first movie to refresh myself prior to seeing part two.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1 - The action was fine, but the entire premise of the story was ridiculous and I couldn't take it seriously. 6.5/10
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3 - Almost everything Marvel has produced has been terrible over the last few years, so I was pleasantly surprised by this. The comedy with the Adam Warlock character fell pretty flat, but a surprisingly emotional story (told in snippets via flashback), along with some decent action set pieces left me entertained the whole way through. 8/10
I will say I didn't much care for Groot's design compared to the first film though. He's pretty much a fully adult Groot again, but they retained the far more cartoony look they gave him as baby Groot (Guardians 2) and teenage Groot (Infinity War).
NAPOLEON Official Trailer (2023) Ridley Scott, Joaquin Phoenix
The film takes a personal look at Napoleon Bonaparte's origins, and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor viewed through the prism of his addictive, and often volatile, relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine.
I am looking forward to this.

Indiana Jones and the dial of destiny.
Conversely
A solid 7/10
Agreed. Have been looking forward to this since I first read rumours of Apple being behind it. I'm a fan of 'Waterloo' (1970, Rod Steiger and Christopher Plummer), so I really hope that Joaquin's performance is as good, as I'm not a fan of his.

Saw this on Saturday night. I enjoyed it I guess, but, long story short (heh), I give it 6.5/10
I thought Mikkelsen was totally wasted, and Indy playing second fiddle to Waller-Bridge when the script was so poor was unforgivable.
I've had no urge or desire to watch it again, so that for me is a good litmus test as to whether I really thought it was any good.
Kookoo:
Indiana Jones and the dial of destiny.
- Why is it so freaking long? Either cut about 40 minutes from it (no real loss), or split it into two parts
- Why are the chase scenes so uninspiring?
- Why is a good third of characters there with no real purpose?
- Why is another third of characters who do have a purposes, so annoying?
Conversely
- Ford and Mikkelsen are fantastic.
- The premise, for Indiana Jones universe, isn't too bad and is actually quite memorable - as in, I walked out of the theatre thinking "that was a pretty cool idea", as opposed to the Crystal Skull's "what the heck was that?!".
- The CGI and especially the rejuvination of Harrison Ford are spectacular, particularly in comparison to The Irishman.
A solid 7/10
Mission Impossible at Imax.
Fantastic, really enjoyed it, it's very much in line with the others in the series. Yes, you need to disconnect your tech brain in order to not groan at some of the tech references, but the action etc was all pretty good.
8/10 from me.
The Out-Laws on Netflix - barely rates 5/10. We we're actually trying to find the Adam Driver Dino flick "65" but it isn't on Netflix NZ, so ended up watching this instead. Utterly silly premise, but fun to see Ellen Barkin back on screen. On the other hand Pierce Brosnan's Irish accent was truly dreadful.

Dodged a bullet there. IMO 2/10 and that's being generous.
Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I see people talking about this all the time across many movies over the last few years, but honesty, I am blissfully ignorant.
