I also watched Indiana Jones. Very disappointed. I couldn't even be bothered to write a review, I was so disinterested 😑

We should close the thread now and it will have come full circle from the first post 😂

Perhaps you could “take one for the team” and go and see the latest Indiana Jones movie and compare and contrast it with the one you kicked off the thread with?

Denzel Washington's third outing as The Equalizer, is getting mostly positive reviews on other forums. Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes is 93% from 500+ votes. IMDb is 7.1/10.

I'm really looking forward to watching this.

Last Voyage of the Demeter. Being based off a single chapter of Dracula, they had plenty of room to flesh out the story and characters and could've have made a nice little movie. Unfortunately they failed on almost all counts. 4.5/10

Fury - Finally got round to watching this while at my folks. Quite enjoyed it, decent enough WW2 movie. Did find some of the "yank" accents bloody hard to understand at times :D   7/10

The book thieve (10/10) very authentic and gripping, nothing to add.

C'mon. It wasn't that bad.

Certainly better than Crystal Skull (damning with faint praise, I know).

It's no Last Crusade, but it had its moments.

Average, yes. But didn't feel like I'd totally wasted 2.5hrs of my life afterwards.

Up to about halfway I was thinking "My $deity, this is slow".

BEETLEJUICE (1988) My iTunes Library 6.5/10

I decided it was time to start watching some of the many films that I bought from the iTunes store for $4.99 or less each. I have literally hundreds that I haven't watched since I bought them, although I have seen most of them on Blu-ray or DVD over the years.

The first film I re-visited was BEETLEJUICE. Michael Keaton has a great time playing the "ghost with the most" and he is well supported by a very young looking Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis who play the recently deceased Barbara and Adam Maitland who enlist his help to scare away the family who bought the Maitland's house, because they want to live their ghostly lives there without the living getting in their way. Needless to say once Beetlejuice is given a free rein, he exploits it to the fullest, and comic horror mayhem ensues.

I've always thought that many of Tim Burton's films are a bit weird, and this is no exception, but I had a few laughs and runtime was less than 90 minutes not counting the credits. As its an 80's film, the special effects are very dated now, but I remember thinking how good they were back then. When I watch these older films, I am always amazed how young some of todays top actors looked back then. Winona Ryder also appears as Lydia, the Goth daughter of the family who move into the Maitland's old house, and is the first of the living who can actually see them.

A nice trip down memory lane. I'm glad I took the time to do it. 😀

AMERICAN PIE (1999) My iTunes Library 7/10

At a high-school party, four friends find that losing their collective virginity isn’t as easy as they had thought. But they still believe that they need to do so before college. To motivate themselves, they enter a pact to all “score.” by their senior prom.

Another title from my iTunes library that I haven't seen for some time. A coming of age sexy comedy which still gets a laugh out of me. Its probably the slightly grubby section of my personality that enjoyed the first three films in this franchise. As per normal, they carried it on far too long (I think the final total was eight films). The sometimes hilarious efforts of the four High School friends to lose their virginity is a lot of fun, and there are several memorable comedy scenes throughout the film. This film introduced us to MILF's for the first time (if you don't know what it means, watch this movie 😁). At almost 90 mins runtime, American Pie doesn't overstay its welcome, and left me ready to watch the sequel.

It was boring. I spent most of the movie on my laptop

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. What a disappointment. Max at 5/10.

I concur. I think it would have been more accurately titled, 'Phoebe Waller-Bridge & Her Script of Shite".

From memory I don't remember a scene where they're both on screen where she isn't dominating the dialogue. I came to see Indy, not someone who had written herself into as many scenes as possible at the cost of making a real snorefest. I thought she was fun in Fleabag, but taking over an Indy movie was too far.

NO HARD FEELINGS (2023) iTunes Rental 6.5/10

On the brink of losing her childhood home, Maddie discovers an intriguing job listing: wealthy helicopter parents looking for someone to “date” their introverted 19-year-old son, Percy, before he leaves for college. To her surprise, Maddie soon discovers the awkward Percy is no sure thing.

I'm a big fan of Jennifer Lawrence. I enjoyed her roles in The Hunger Games and The X-Men series. So, when I read that she was starring in an R-Rated Romantic Comedy, it piqued my interest.

I was expecting the usual RomCom fare, but I was pleasantly surprised. I actually had a few genuine laughs watching this, and J-Law looked really good throughout the film. She actually has a full nude scene on a beach, and that's all I'm gonna say about that. Its a refreshing take on the RomCom theme. Now that Ms Lawrence is free of The Hunger Games and X-men shackles, hopefully we will see her in a few more Indie films.
