I am kind of wondering at this point, why Cersi and the rest don't split the land remaining and just live separately in peace. I mean she is a coniving witch, but yeah.. Logically, is there any REAL reason they have to dispatch her?

Dany - reclaiming her fathers throne

Starks - Avenge Ned

Tyrion and Jaime - It's Complicated

Not to mention the fact that she will be coming for them anyway. She sees them all as a threat to her rule and will probably want them dead for not bending the knee from the start. When she learns of their Pyrrhic victory she will probably want to strike while they are militarily weakened. Although the Dragons...

Pretty unlikely to get away with that, certainly the news of his demise would reach her first, not to mention the fact that the undead aren't pounding on her door...

The darkness explained:

"Fans complained that the Battle of Winterfell was too dark to see properly. But cinematographer Fabien Wagner defends the gloom"

“A lot of the problem is that a lot of people don’t know how to tune their TVs properly,” he says. “A lot of people also unfortunately watch it on small iPads, which in no way can do justice to a show like that anyway.”

What a complete moron.

How about the studio actually puts out a high quality version of it rather than generic 1080 level stuff. If the blackness was actually BLACK, that would have made a decent difference.

I actually liked the darkness... as a design choice.

It added to the ominous overtones of an approaching army of the undead and appropriately named "long night". Especially because I was expecting a slow but inevitable march of shambling corpses, but then BAM! TSUNAMI OF THE UNDEAD!

Once the undead host had joined the battle, it felt like I was right there in the thick of it, not knowing what the heck was going on. Undead in ur base and killin ur doods, and battle plan gone to poos.

The real problem was with the poo quality streamed versions of it (exacerbated by my damnable edge-lit LG TV with like 2 dimming zones), it ended up with a mess of grainy artifacts sometimes for me. Didn't have any problems seeing the action though. How did it fare on OLED TVs?

Overall, yeah it wasn't perfect, but I think still one of the better episodes they have had for a while.

Not great on an OLED either, but it wasn't the darkness so much as all the compression artifacts on the streaming version I watched. With the amount of compression they just couldn't manage the subtle gradiations of grey. I wonder if SOHO on SKY was any better?

I bet the Blu-Ray (especially the UHD HDR Blu-Ray) will look great.

No Sky on Soho wasn't any better.

The compression was the issue I had mostly, but the darkness was a problem too. My projector has great contrast management and there were a lot of people dying I couldn't even really tell who.

I still think most of that is a result of the compression, not the darkness. Instead of getting say 15 shades of grey, your get 2 - so you lose heaps of subtle detail. Nowhere near as noticeable in bright scenes, but a real problem in very dark scenes.

I stand by my comment that I think it will look exponentially better on the Blu-Ray and UHD Blu-Ray.

It was meant to be dark and disorienting, but I didn't have any problem identifying who was who in the copy I watched on my OLED.

On a side note, LG have an annoying function on their OLEDs that dims the screen if it thinks the picture hasn't changed much in a few minutes (this is different to the screen saver function which only kicks in when the picture literally hasn't changed at all). It's meant to be an anti-burnin feature, but what actually happens is that in very dark scenes it doesn't seem to think the picture is changing enough, and so dims the screen which make it even darker (often unwatchably so). Fortunately this "feature" can be disabled in the service menu, but most people wouldn't even know their TV does this, let along how to go about disabling it. I bet a lot of LG OLED owners complaining about the episode had this issue.

EDIT: The above described feature is also different than the logo dimming feature.

Sony A1 65 OLED Sky box.

It looked like poo on my tv too.

Your could see the dark pixelated contrast arcs in dark scenes.

Reminded me of those dodgy mp4 rips of DVD back in the day.

I don't think this is the end of the Night king, the Children of the forest can create a new one. They made the Night king because Humans were slaughtering them. Nothing stopping them making another one.

Also, from other big stories (Starwars comes to mind) Good vs Evil type of thing.

One cant exist without the other, they will make a new Night King and the cycle will repeat in another thousand or so years.

It would still take time to get that done, get an army big enoug to fight (You can't ressurect the twice dead) and storm their way through Westeros.

Weren't the children of the forest all killed off when NK attacked their home? (Hold the door!)

I am not aware of the story of how the NK was created, but why would NK attack his creators?

I don’t think they'd have Arya killing off two major baddies so I am going with Jamie killing his own sister but I am also guessing he doesn’t live through it.

Any guesses who ends up on the throne? I am going with Sansa.
