happyone65: it was more than that,it was from some body that i had not ordered any thing from,i ordered a dvd and cd from 2 different places this was a parcel for kitchen stuff that i have no idea what it is.

From experience, if they can't tell what the item is from the outside of the box OR from opening it and looking for a receipt, then the item is automatically marked as Kitchen. All of the items I have purchased via YouShop have been Toys and Games but most are 'Kitchen' when the email is sent from YouShop telling me the parcel has arrived.

So the item is probably what you ordered ...

Being mindful of my grammar and the errors caused by typing on a tablet touch screen...

I might have mentioned this before but Youshop recently sent my package to the wrong Youshop client because they had transposed the suite number. The recipient, who was expecting a package anyway, paid for it and then upon discoverimg the error, kindly contacted me and sent me the package at his cost plus ate the cost he paid Youshop for shipping the package to NZ.

Upon contacting Youshop, apart from apologizing form the error, they gave me a discount voucher to use for my next shipment and promised to refund the original recipient both his costs for having the package sent to NZ together with the postage to forward to me.

I don't know if they have done that yet but the commitment was made.

9 days after fedex delivered my parcel. 1 phone call and one chase up email later I get:
Hi ,

A parcel arrived for you at our USA warehouse on 20 Mar at 1pm

Item value $44 usd
Postage to nz $55nzd

Let's see if it arrives in NZ now!

Just to vent my frustrations I sent this to nzpost:

Thankyou for your reply. It would perhaps seem that the online store I purchased from omitted all the information as I inserted the address exactly as advised by nzpost when purchasing. There are obviously no alternative verification methods for package reconciliation. Surely it wouldn't be too difficult to check customer name for starters. Secondly it would be expedient for youshop to have a method whereby a customer can enter their tracking number once they order an item. To rely on the youshop customer to find an obscure international parcels phone number on the youshop site and have to initiate the parcel identification is unsatisfactory.
I will look forward to your systems being improved before I use or recommend your service again.

Early in this thread it was mentioned that ink cartridges are on the prohibited list. I can't see that in the information currently available at NZ Post. Am I missing something, or have they been taken off the list?

Got the notifications every step of the way.
So quite happy with the service

That would be frustrating, however if the company you buy from can't use the address details provided I can see why Youshop wouldn't identify it. It's probably a massive warehouse that the parcels go to, probably with services other than youshop, so a random parcel arriving without that information on it may not even get to them.

They should have systems in place to deal with it though, as it will probably happen occasionally.

I use youshop from time to time, so far it's all worked out fine.

just curious, what is the discrepancy between parcel weight and volumetric weight for everyone with youshop so far.

i know this will differ between merchants and the items ordered... mine are usually apparel and usually volumetric weight is about 2-3 times more.

Volumetric weight 3.23kg

Volumetric weight in the shipping world is generally a standard 200kg per cubic meter.

A quick check on one of your random packages above confirms that is the calculation they are using.

Edit to add example:

Parcel weight 1.1kg
Parcel dimensions 26cm x 38cm x 13cm
Volumetric weight 2.57kg

0.26m * 0.38m * 0.13m = 0.012844 m3
1m3 / 0.012844m3 = 77.8573653068
2.57kg * 77.8573653068 = 200.093428838

Allowing for measurement errors, rounding etc, it's bang on 200kg per m3.
