Mickey 17 at Hoyts

Was looking forward to this - quirky story, acclaimed director, Robert Pattinson is a great actor and the rest of the cast are good too.

Overall it was ok - good performances all around but didn't quite deliver. The movie, at 2 hours 17 minutes is a tad long and there are subplots that don't seem to go anywhere including scenes which could have been cut out altogether. Steven Yeun was also sadly wasted in his role.

6.5/10

Nosferatu

4/10

A bit of a borefest if I'm honest. Not sure what I was expecting but it's really slow and just wasn't my cup of tea. I'm a fan of Nick and Bill but yeah not their best.

As far as the heroes are concerned, sure. 😁

Just watched a movie on Prime Video called Hounds of War

Just to set the scene - it stars Frank Grillo

It's a 1980's-90's style military action movie, where Frank's character (who's name escapes me) is part of an elite black ops squad.

He's retired, but comes back for one job as a favour to his brother and his pregnant sister-in-law.

The US Govt can't be trusted and it all goes wrong, which leaves old mate Frank a bit miffed and he decides to "take the system down".

Overall, it was a bit disjointed, not great and fairly predictable. 4/10

Armor, Sylvester Stallone and Jason Patric.

2/10, find something else.

I just wanted a "switch your brain off for 90-minutes" action flick, and it failed to hurdle even that lowered bar.

Is it just me, or are the streaming sites full of "big stars" making low budget, low effort action flicks that are really rubbish, of late?

Been doing baby sitting recently. Seen The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh about 37 times so far. Can't beat it on a very blustery day...

Kraven the Hunter

I'm a fan of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, but he can't make this watchable.

It's poorly edited, not very well written and overall, dreadfully produced.

For anyone not familiar with the story - Kraven is Russian. He becomes a superhero/anti-hero who is an animalistic hunter of "bad people".

His dad is not a nice man, his brother seems to be nice enough and he (Kraven) meets up with a woman who has little to no proper backstory to explain her particular stuff, other than she saved his life when he was a child.

I think the thing that makes it so poor is that there seems to be almost no character development. It's all just a bit..."here we are".

Not a fan, even though I normally like this sort of thing and really wanted to like it.

3/10

Remember that 5 month writers strike that lasted to the end of 2023 ...

I get the feeling that a number of productions suffered badly from a lack of "corrections"

Or maybe its just the Liam Neeson effect :)

Watched this at Event Cinemas Albany on Tuesday night and loved it. Very clever and an exceptional performance by Robert.

Furiosa - a Mad Max Saga

Starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, this movie is set in Post-Apocalyptic Australia and it’s as weird and unhinged as you would expect.

This film is action packed, well shot, fabulously acted and full of practical effects (none of this digital explosion nonsense).

I loved this. It’s the backstory/origin story of Furiosa who we first came across in Mad Max Fury Road.

10/10 from me.
