Mickey 17 at Hoyts

Was looking forward to this - quirky story, acclaimed director, Robert Pattinson is a great actor and the rest of the cast are good too.

Overall it was ok - good performances all around but didn't quite deliver. The movie, at 2 hours 17 minutes is a tad long and there are subplots that don't seem to go anywhere including scenes which could have been cut out altogether. Steven Yeun was also sadly wasted in his role.

6.5/10

Watched this at Event Cinemas Albany on Tuesday night and loved it. Very clever and an exceptional performance by Robert.

8.5/10

Agreed - very good performance by RP and all the cast.

I suspect I will enjoy it better second time around, not reading too much into some of the subplots and just go with the flow.

Electric State 6/10 - Great pace all the way through. I enjoyed it mostly. Like a weird movie for kids unfortunately with extra violence. Then, then ending is not kid friendly.

Watched it last night. Paint by numbers and your score is fair. The needledrops (music) didn't work - at all. James Gunn and Quentin Tarantino seem to nail it and make the music an emotional connection. Here they missed the mark completely and it was distracting.

Mickey 17: Was expecting a lot more from the reviews.  Roughly the sort of material, and same quantity of material, for a 45-minute Voyager or Enterprise episode, but dragged out to two-and-a-bit hours.  One of those films like ID4 where, when you've seen the preview, you've seen the whole film.

Watched Electric State on Saturday night.

Personally - I really enjoyed it for what it was. I didn't expect too much and I was not disappointed - quite the contrary.
After all the bad press, I felt like it was better than I thought it would be.

Agree that the music wasn't as well integrated into the movie as a James Gunn movie would have been, but I enjoyed some of those songs, so it didn't overly bother me.

Overall, I thought it was a fun movie.

I am currently 11 hours into the Director's Cut of Rebel Moon Pt One
I think it's 11 hours. I can't be sure...it feels more like 2 weeks.
Just under halfway through.

Looking forward to seeing part two in a couple of months, when I finish this one.

Is that like a Mahler symphony where the performance starts at 8 and after it's been going for three or four hours you look at your watch and it's 8:20?

Well, it's been a further seventeen days and nineteen hours of non-stop watching, but I made it through the second instalment of Rebel Moon, the Directors Cut.

Overall, I don't think the Director's Cut added anything of real value.
More blood, a couple of gratuitous love scenes that added nothing to the story, longer battle scenes with more blood, explosions and grainy dirt-strewn cinematography.

I like the premise. It's very "grown up Star Wars". The execution was just a bit...hamfisted.

It's been set up for a threquel. I'm not sure Netflix will give him another couple of hundred million to make the third or fourth films.

Although this Article suggests it's already in the works.

Overall, I can't say I disliked the movies...just that they needed something...but I am not sure what.

Shouldn't it be seven hours and fifteen days?

he was able to compare it with Star Wars (and lost), so perhaps not. 😁

i watched the miniseries Adolescence on NF and liked it. would rate it an 8, on the strength of good acting and pace. i got the feeling that there's some goal of maximizing the dread and fear for parents of teens. almost a what's the worst that could happen to an otherwise loved son.

It's not very good.

The Marvels (2023) My Apple Store/iTunes Library • 5/10

A good looking, though a little over saturated Dolby Vision film with an excellent Dolby Atmos soundtrack that I have been putting off watching due to poor reviews. Lots of superhero flying around scenes with so much going on, that I gave up trying to follow the "storyline" and just enjoyed the A/V presentation. Just another money grab from Disney/Marvel. I really should stop watching Marvel superhero films; they are getting increasingly bad. I'm looking at you Thor: Love and Thunder and Ant-Man: Quantumania.

The Mechanic (2011) Blu-ray Disc • 7/10

I'm not embarrassed to say that I love Jason Statham action films. I know that he seems to play the same character, just with different names in most of them, but refreshingly The Mechanic has a decent storyline as well as enough action to keep me happy. It was my second viewing and, if anything, I enjoyed it more this time. Statham plays a hitman who attempts to train an old friend's son how to succeed in the killing game.

Flight Risk (2025) Apple Store Rental • 6/10

Sometimes a film with a simple story can be quite entertaining. The synopsis for this one is that an Air Marshall has to accompany a fugitive who has some information that will be enough to imprison some crime bosses... and we can't have that, can we? With only the Air Marshall, the fugitive and the pilot on board of the light plane... what could go wrong?

Mark Wahlberg is the pilot, Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) is the Air Marshall, and Topher Grace plays the fugitive. Michelle Dockery foregoes her posh English accent for an American one. The film is shot almost entirely on the plane, but, in spite of this, I was mildly entertained. No multiverse's here, just an enjoyable 90 minutes, with no plot overload.

Mickey 17.

I don't even know where to start.

Absolute drivel.

My 17yo daughter asked if we could leave half way through. I wish I'd said yes.
