Megan 2.0 - 5/10 - Was more of a beat 'em up rather than a thriller like the first one.
F1 - 8/10 - Enjoyed it, was lots of race stuff rather than the "Days of Thunder" follow up I was kind of expecting. Wish I had volume control at the cinema.... crank it up :D

F1: The Movie - 5/10
Wanted to like it much more than I did. Its very much an "its fine" for me. Nothing special, nothing particularly bad. Found the racing bits a bit too repetitive (and I'm an F1 fan). Entirely predictable story (which I fully expected). Seemed to be a bit too skewed for the American market for my tastes I guess.
Doesn't look like anyone has reviewed Ballerina (from the John Wick universe) or 28 Years' Later. I'm planning to go to the movies tonight, and looking at these two. Anyone care to share their views?
Wife and I had a date night and took in F1 at the local cinema.
I really enjoyed it and surprisingly, so did the wife! She learned that F1 is a team sport!!
Action/racing scenes were really well done and while some may say they're repetitive, I felt like I was behind the wheel at times and actually really enjoyed those sequences.
My son (film school graduate and wannabe director) said to him it was Top Gun: Maverick in racing cars. I tend to agree, but it felt less contrived and Hoorah! America! than that.
I really enjoyed it and wouldgive it a 8.5/10

I went to see 28 years later this week and really enjoyed it (was still thinking about it a couple of days after seeing it).
It's quite different from 28 days and 28 weeks - slower paced and more on story than action. But great film making, and good cast (Ralph Fiennes is great as usual and the young star whose name I forget was awesome). I think its been quite a polarising film for those just keen on a bit of zombie action.
Haven't seen Ballerina yet, but planning to.

I am in two minds about this movies. The reviews suggest even though it wasn't shot on Imax camera (like the ones Christoper Nolan uses) you should see it in an Imax centre, if only for the larger screen and immersive sound.
So unless you have a fantastic HT system at home, the viewing experience at home is going to be suboptimal.
But unlike Top Gun Maverick where jets doing all kinds of aerobatics was really exhilarating viewing, the thought of watching F1 cars race around a track doesn't really appeal to me. And I know my wife will get bored :-(
Probably won't bother this time.
Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD. https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.
Watched Ballerina (from the John Wick universe) over the weekend.
I like the John Wick franchise, but this one was meh. Ana's performance was bad (at least for me), 4/10.

It was ok - AdA as Eve didn't have the same physical or technical dominance as JW and they explain that in the movie. She is fighting bigger opponents so her style is more using whatever she can get her hands on. Fighting style is a bit messy and not as impressive as JW. Flame thrower scene is pretty good though.
JW appears in it and there's a deleted scene which you should look up after you've seen the movie. I can see why they removed it but also it's fairly important as well.
It's an ok addition (better than the Continental) and it didn't perform at the box office but I do hope it gets a sequel or they bring her back in some capacity.
A quick baker's half dozen of 2025 films...
Ballerina... meh, the whole JW world is tired and needs a rest 5/10
F1.. another sucky race car film, not as bad as the recent bios but close 5/10
The Old Guard 2... hugely disappointing after the long wait, skip and go straight to Part 3 (if the make it) 5/10
The Phoenician Scheme... big Wes Anderson fan, enjoyable but note quite The French Dispatch or Asteroid City 7.5/10
Sinners... long and dragged out 6.5/10
Predator Killer of Killers... this animated anthology was better than most of the live action Predator films 7.5/10
Ice Road Vengeance... totally silly, by the numbers but fun Liam Neeson bus adventure in the Himalayas 7/10
Sinners 5/10 What's the hype about? Found myself looking at the time a few times bored at points. Jack O'Connell was a good time in this though.
Mickey 17 7.5/10 This was a fun movie, has a bit of a Edge of Tomorrow feel but done better.
Novocaine 6/10 A good way to kill sometime on a Friday night. Silly action flick.
The Amateur: Meh, Rami Malek doing his Mr Robot thing. I enjoyed Mr Robot but this film didn't add much to the film world for me. It rushed through the character building and was all very predicable in terms of how Hollywood thinks the CIA works. Jon Bernthal was the best thing in it and he only got a few minutes of screen time.
5/10
