Handsomedan:
Watched The Amateur starring Rami Malek on Disney+ this past weekend.
Well I didn't expect that set of google results.
Entertaining in different ways!
Amateurs!
Back in the 90s some time, my watch stopped working.
I think this still holds today... do not search "ladies watch"!
Delete cookies?! Are you insane?!
I finally got around to watching Mission Impossible.
So much exposition. It really needed Austin Powers to cross to Basil to explain. What a stinker. So disappointing as I really enjoyed the last one.
On a side note Tom Cruise is entering wax face territory.
Watched Better Man the Robbie Williams biopic.
Wife wasn't keen as she didn't think she would be able to watch a movie that "stars" a CGI ape.
She hates the Planet of the Apes movies.
I have to say...within a couple of minutes, we'd both largely forgotten that Robbie Williams isn't a chimp in real life. Or more correctly, we'd largely forgotten that the lead chimp was in fact a chimp.
It's a really good movie that could have easily been a good hour longer. There are parts of his life that are glossed over (he admits that he has little to no memory of his most famous years when his first couple of solo albums came out), so there's no real exploration of the "good parts" of his life where he was a proper global superstar and had relationships with some of the most desirable/eligible women of the day.
I learned a few things - didn't realise Nicole Appleton was pregnant with his child at one point. Also didn't realise how awful his dad was and that he left when Robert was quite young.
It's a good movie for what it is, although the Knebworth scene is a bit...interesting.
I'd give it a 7/10, but can truly say the SFX/CGI is 10/10. I see why it was nominated for Oscars now.

Bring Her Back Australian horror movie. Some scenes I can't unsee!!
When a titan music mogul is targeted with a ransom plot, he is jammed up in a life-or-death moral dilemma.
This is not one of Denzel Washington’s best movies. Though it does have a very small, not so great, fight scene and a sort of shoot out, just don't expect to see Denzel and his usual bash them up - shoot them down rolls. This is more of a life questioning and affirming movie.
Luckily I had had some rum & cokes and a few reds đˇ
6.5/10âšī¸
Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
BALLERINA (2025) 6/10.
I haven't watched a movie on my Home Cinema setup for over three months. Been overseas, project at home etc.. So I was really looking forward to this World of John Wick spin-off.
Unfortunately I was disappointed, I just can't accept that a beautiful 1.68 metre (5'6") woman can beat up big muscular heavyweight men. Having said that, I know that the John Wick films are way over the top...still.
Lots of action (some of it quite innovative), but I needed Keanu Reeves to be the one delivering the action. Hopefully John Wick will be back in a fifth installment soon.

Watched a bunch of movies recently:
The War of the Roses (1989) - 8/10
Ahead of the remake coming out, I re-watched the original starring Kathleen Turner, Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito. A married couple hit that point in their relationship where one half comes to resent the other and wants a divorce, but rather than being sensible and calm they escalate their dispute to often hilarious levels. It was still really good, and my partner who was seeing it for the first time really enjoyed it too. Will be interesting to see the remake, though I read a review that suggested it lacked a lot of the charm of the original.
John Carpenter's Vampires (1998) - 5/10
Definitely in the "b-movie" genre, it came out as part of the "vampire era" I associate with the late 90s/early 00s - Blade, Buffy, Underworld, etc. But it was "gritty" and sometimes brutal. No fancy "dusting" of vampires here. To kill one you need to hack and slash their head off, pretty gruesome. My partner isn't a fan of gore, and she was hiding behind her hands for a lot of this film. James Wood is the lead, playing Jack Crow (another "subtle" JC character), a slayer in the employ of the Catholic Church to keep the demonic forces of vampires at bay. Wood is unapologetically Wood here - I'm sure he would be the poster boy for the anti-woke crowd. The main vampire is Valek played by Ian Thomas Griffith (Terry Silver from Karate Kid Part III, which I never noticed at the time). My partner picked out several plot holes along the way (she would be excellent at CinemaSins!) and while I found it enjoyable in the cinema back in 1998, this time around it landed a little flat mostly because of Wood's snarling performance.
The Thirteenth Floor (1999) - 4/10
This one popped up on my radar because I noticed it was starring Craig Bierko who is probably unknown to most but played David Lister in the (failed) pilot for the American version of Red Dwarf. Amongst others on the Red Dwarf Fan Page I follow on FB, the film was known and touted as a competitor to The Matrix - it involves a vaguely similar storyline about "virtual reality." There are a few notable names in the film - Gretchen Mol, Vincent D'Onofrio, and Denis Haysbert. But to be honest I found it pretty dull. A computer scientist develops a VR simulation which allows the user to enter a realistic recreation of past eras - in this case, 1937 - with NPCs that are almost sentient. There's a twist which I won't spoil, but watching this movie 26 years later, and compared against the hit film of the era (The Matrix) this feels like a straight-to-DVD bargain bin film. The idea could have been developed a bit more to make it more compelling, but it comes away feeling like a cheap version of an episode of The Outer Limits.
Superman.
It was good enough, I suppose.
More Christopher Reeve than Henry Cavill, so take from that what you will.
I didn't hate it, but didn't understand the random cameo of Supergirl towards the end. That seemed largely meaningless.

The Naked Gun (2025) a virtual remake of the much much better original The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!
OMG I am sooo glad I had had a few red's đˇ and post dinner ports. 5/10. I noticed I had given the original, 1988, a 7/10. Liam Neeson very bad attempt to imitate Leslie Nielsen character was appalling. Mind you I have always classed Neeson in the B category of actors, the only exception being Schindler's List which he justifiably deserved all the accolades.
Have a few before watching this movie.

I just rewatched Blade Runner 2049.. Might actually watch the original tonight. Or Gattaca. On a bit of a dystopian buzz. Over the middle of winter I was all Ancient Civilization (Gods of Egypt, Titans of War,Both 300s, Immortals, Kingdom of Heaven, Troy, Alexander, Prince of Perisa, both of The Mummy, Pompeii, Noah and the Two Gladiators)
