"The perfect conditions for drying clothes outside are high temperatures, air movements and low humidity"

Next helpful story will probably be how to tie your shoelaces, even if you're wearing jandles.

I only learnt how to do the "never undo" shoe lace knot a couple of years ago so that might be an interesting article

Funny you bring this up. There was an article (not headline though) by Michelle Dickinson (Nanogirl) a while ago in the Herald on research that had been done into why shoelaces come undone. Boiled down to doing a bowed reef knot rather than a bowed granny knot. So the 'helpful story' has already happened.

Man thrown off Costa cruise liner in Indian Ocean

Except...it's not as interesting as it sounds. You're thinking lifeboats, man over board etc?

Nah. He got a bit bolshy and the captain made him get off the next time the ship berthed....

Well, duh! The whole point of a headline is that it makes the story sound interesting, so that people will want to read it (and therefore buy the paper, or click the link).

Although I'll grant you that this example was a bit beyond the pale.

Not a headline, but still pretty dumb. Here in Hastings, the Council commissioned street markings in a parking area. These included two words: 'Emergency Vehicles'. The sign painter managed to misspell both of them. I sure hope our new education minister can bring literacy back to the classroom, because the last one certainly didn't!

On the positive, there wasn't an apostrophe placed before the plural denoting 's'.
