MikeB4:
The flag has nothing to do with our system of Government
Yes I know that?
Kyanar:dafman: Now, doesn't this look a whole lot better ...
Honest truth? No. It doesn't. Kind of cringeworthy, actually.
DizzyD:
I agree. It looks cheap.

For identification purposes, red peak does work much better than the current one.
So when we're at battle our Navy and legions should be easily identifiable.

DizzyD:
Well with red peak somebody may confuse us with that North Carolina Engineering firm.
At least the feather and koru flags look a little more distinctive.

Then I really don't know what your statement "Until New Zealand is a republic, and not bound by the crown and/or the treaty between Maori/crown. Whats the point of a new flag?" is for.

Nothing about government mentioned in there?
We could fire the queen very easily without changing government.
All we would need to do is elect a president.

I'm pretty sure that if the New Zealand forces were in Afghanistan with the Red Peak flag flashing on their uniforms, the Taliban are not going to be thinking "We're being attacked by a North Carolina engineering firm." In fact, I'd say that outside of North Carolina very few people would have ever heard of Peak Engineering or be able to identify their company logo.
kiwitrc: I bet said firm have lawyered up and are hoping for a huge payday if NZ has to buy the design rights off them.
mattwnz: The problem with any large population deciding on something like this, is that people have different tastes, and many people have really bad taste. You just have to look at peoples homes. The best company logos are those that are designed by professionals and decided on by professionals. Red peak does have quite a bit of support in the design community due to it's simplicity and meanings. It is a bit logo like, and could mean anything to someone just looking at it, but if you look at most flags the same applies. I do think though it needs a link to the old flag, such as the southern cross. If you look at some of the simple flag, they do have stars or other logos on them too. My issue with the flag is that it is a 'red peak' which would imply a red mountain, and how does that apply to NZ. A green mountain maybe, but not red.
