I've had this happen with my personalized plates. All well in good ordering a new set, barring the fact that you get pulled over, and suspected of pump runs due to the fact your plate doesn't change unlike a standard issue replacement! Incredibly annoying.

I remember reading recently that plates get stolen to use in drive-offs at petrol stations.

You can get anti theft screws for plates from Repco. I've just drilled the centre out of the pozi head.

Some prices are good, some are terrible!

As a counter to your kitchenaid pricing debacle, I bought some sony noise cancelling headphones for some flypoints plus $99 . Can't recall how many points but it was a very good deal.

Had that many years ago. I ordered new plates but was stopped a couple of times by police until they arrived. To their credit they were really nice and seemed to know about an ongoing wave of plate stealing.

Got a letter six months later saying they recovered my plate. Apparently a girl with plate fetish was going around Khandallah and Broadmeadows back then, stealing a lot of plates.

Yep, given how easy it is to get replacement plates and the form to fill in has the fields for stolen and the police ref. number this still seems to be quite a common thing. A historical Stuff article said more than 22,000 plates were stolen between 2011 and 2015. One of the local petrol stations will become the victim of a drive-off in the near future I suspect.

Police were really good to her as well when she reported it. They sent her an email with the Police Acknowledgement Form and said to just show the officer that if she gets pulled over. Must say this new 10-5 phone number is really handy as well, didn't have to faff about finding a local number.

Biggest hassle is that the car is registered in my name here in Wellington so I've had to go and get the replacements and post them to her in Palmerston North so she might be without for a few days. (Then she or her aunt will need to attach them, DIY is not their forte, but we'll jump that hurdle when we reach it.)

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

Ah, is that what they're up to? Saw someone changing plates in our street on Monday. Came back 20 minutes later and swapped them back. Looks like the legit plates were the ones they put back on. Police were notified, so hopefully they'll get what they deserve. Knowing our justice system however, that seems unlikely.

Its not always that, sometimes people are swapping plates around to take a car with no rego places to get work done on it etc.

I'm fairly sure you are only allowed to drive an unregistered car to and from getting work done on it, so swapping plates is not required.

I'm equally sure that attaching incorrect plates to it is never allowed.

No, that is an unwarrented car. if its a deregesterd/unregistered car you have to tow it everywhere or else have access to dealer plates.

It really should be accompanied by a 4 page essay with diagrams and graphs explaining the reasons for such radical change though...

countdown website. I used it several years ago, and it was slow and buggy.

Gave it another crack today, and it is still slow and buggy.

eg,

"Whoops, it seems like our site is a bit overwhelmed at the moment.
We apologise for the hold up.

If you continue to receive these errors please contact our
Customer Service Team on 0800 40 40 40"

This is not an 'overwhelmed' error at all, it is simple functionality that they forgot to code!

And, they still don't have my correct address in their system (2 years later!) -- my street comes up in the search list, but it is still listed in the wrong suburb.

We use hellofresh now anyway, so we don't go to the supermarket anywhere near as much as in the past.

Not this time, switching what appeared to be the legitimate plates with recent plates from a vehicle that had had new plates issued. I.e. stolen. Not even going to entertain the idea of giving them the benefit of the doubt.
