I saw a survey a while ago that asked "How do you pronounce the # character?" and it gave multi-choice answers:

Hash
Pound
Splat
Number
Hashtag

The most voted for answer was hashtag! 😲

When I started in the telco practice we called it the pound key (US-based). When I moved to New Zealand of course I changed to calling it hash. Both (and "number") are valid names.

"To talk to support press 2 followed by the hash key" or "To talk to support press 2 followed by the pound key".

Hashtag? Yeah, people that got their first education from the smartphone on their hands.

When I grew up, hash was something that came from Lebanon or Afghanistan in small brown blocks...! The idea of a phone key that (presumably) arranged automatic delivery seems good...

There's just too much to quote from the time I posted to tag to all involved so I'll chime back in again anyway and say the only hash I remember growing up was the kind, those hippie folk with garden assortments in their hair, used to smoke. Hey Does anyone watch Shorthand street here? The profound childish way that angel charterer speaks just about turns my gills green, hashtag this, Instagram that and who could forget the "my life" Facebook rip off references? (thinking about it..my life isn't real is it? please tell it's not so)..oh dear, it's cringe worthy to say the least, ow look I have another one!.. what's a another little thing that annoys me? Angel off shorthand street. There we go.

One of the Food Bag recipes this week calls for "2 Tbsp cup milk". Rather than guessing at what it means, I figured that it would be easiest to check the online version in the hope that it's been corrected. Alas, they haven't bothered to put this week's recipes on there.

Edit: Five captcha requests to submit a question on the MFB website?!

To the best of my knowledge, I have yet to have a need to spell it at all in 50+ years - but should that need arise, I will endeavour to include the e.

Yes, indeed they did. My grandfather did still answer his Bakelite phone with the words "Bournemouth 27640" however.

For anyone following along at home, they've confirmed that two tablespoons is the correct figure (which I what I assumed it was, but checked anyway).
