Remember if the item is considered to attract GST then there will also be a charge for agriculture clearance or something like that. I just experienced that on the import of a tablet from the US via Youshop.

Wait, what ?

How much was the tablet converted to NZD if I may know , and how much did Youshop charge for shipping ? And how/why is there an agriculture tax ? is this a new thing ?

hangon:
You mean leave the "suite number" from the provided youshop address when entering the billing CC address at Play store?

And US$302 ? my goodness lol , doesn't look like the NX5 will cost that little.  I forgot how much did the NX4 retail for at the playstore, if anyone can chime in

Thanks for the vpn suggestion! Will give it a try.

Yes otherwise the name won't match with your credit card.

I had ANZ calling me to confirm the purchase was legit, but the purchase was cancelled before hand possibly because of that. After I removed the suite number and tried again, it went through. Now I get access to Play store - devices without using VPN.

N4 8 GB started at $299, 16 GB $349 (which dropped to $249 before sold out not long ago)

Hopefully what Old3Eyes said will be true (i'm looking at you CNET!)

I'll make sure to leave out the suite number.

Just now gotta find out what this agriculture tax bullcrap is all about. hmm

The tablet was US$350. The assessable amount was $NZ449 and freight  NZ$47

I threw away the main letter but I incurred the following charges

GST $74.4
Import transaction fee  $25.44
GST on import transaction fee $3.82
Biosecurity Levy $15.33
GST on Levy $2.30

Total to pay $121.29

YMMV

Yeah if it was purely just the extra GST costs which they charge you then bringing in say a NZ$500 item wouldn't be such a big deal for me, but then they slap on all the extra customs fees...... makes it an outright rip off, I just do not want that, so I'm always careful that the items I buy cost me less than NZ$400 to get to my door.

Just keep in mind $400 is the threshold for computers and electronics.

Clothing and bags etc have much lower threshold (NZ$250?)

Out of interest, I seem to remember the GST portion is on the landed cost, not on the price of the goods. Landed cost is goods+postage (from memory of the last time I paid it).

I'm current up to 23 parcels with Youshop - the service works great but does seem to have gotten slower in recent months.

I have always declared the actual value on my packages however as I normally wait until I need a couple before ordering I have them sent to different addresses to avoid any total value issues.

I ordered 1 item with a cost of $350 and ended up paying about $115 in fees to clear it - I was okay with that as it was still substantially cheaper than buying local.....but generally for anything else it's just not worth it if you have to pay tax + fees and lose the local warranty.

Is this $350 in NZD and the actual value of the product ?  What was shipping cost and GST ?

$115 sounds massive.

I can believe $115, they hit you with a lot of custom fees on top of the GST cost. Which SUCKS.

Although why was it pinged when it cost $350?? Or did the shipping push it over $400?

Just a question has anyone had any issues requesting the warehouse to return an item?
In my case this is going to be Amazon and hopefully they will provide a return label.
Do you know if Amazon provided a UPS Drop off or a Pickup label and what the warehouse accepts?
Will the Warehouse still charge/request fees? Even though this doesn't mention any fees to do so.

I suspect you can't.  For that reason I suspect that the UK version will not be popular..

good news for uk youshoppers...

amazon uk sez they will refund vat if you forward details showing where the items was bought from, what the item was, proof that it has been exported from the uk and received elsewhere.

originally it was suggested something called a 'single administrative document' (sad -lol) was required but they say a youshop screencap with the relevant details was acceptable.

:)

I'm sure this one is obvious, although I couldn't see this answered in the thread, but is the youshop postage cost included for the total customs fee? I wasn't sure, because they state that GST is already included in their postage.

ie if the cost of an item to get to youshop is less than NZD$400 and the youshop freight charge puts it over the $400 tipping point, do you then have to pay the GST, import charges etc, or is it only the landed cost to their US location that is considered.  I had assumed that the youshop charge would have been included in the customs calculations, but thought I would double check.
