Putting aside country loyalties is anyone not expecting Brazil to win?

Dutch doing enough to get up 3-2 over Australia. Great spectacle for the neutrals but 70 nervewracking minutes for us Oranje fans. Credit to the Australians, they played hard and pretty fair. Van Persie suspended for the Chile fixture.

I thought that was a silly stat - Rooney hasn't scored a world cup goal (unless he did the other day)

What mind altering drugs was del Bosque on? I am sorry but was I the only one who saw what was perhaps the most historically awful performance by a GK at a major tournament by Casillas against the Dutch? If you are going to select two other pretty good GKs (De Gea especially had an outstanding season behind a hopeless Man Utd defence), you seriously owe it to them as a matter of fairness and decency to give them a go after that crap. But still if it wasn't for del Bosque, the Casillas Comedy Show would have been over - awful, primary school level positioning on the first goal; on the second, if the guy wasn't a rich and successful dude, you'd think he got bought by some bunch of people who bet on Spain losing.

Del Bosque largely bought this on the team by not radically altering the team and selecting the WC squad on reputation alone. What utterly disgraceful lack of leadership. Still, it really is nice to see this lot of mostly class-less Barca and Real Madrid players brought thumping down to earth.

And how sad to see how absolutely little progress has been made by African teams so far in the WC. Cameroon basically lived up to all the stereotypes about African teams - lacking footballing intelligence, lazy, and liable to self-destruct.

Oh and what a game between the Dutch and the Aussies. The Aussies can be proud of their effort.

Yeah the Aussies did extremely well - shall we debate the penalty? ;-) The Dutch should be concerned about their defence though, they were lucky not to concede more.

England's performance this morning was nothing like the one against Italy. They looked a bit scared frankly and paid for some poor marking. Pre-season training at Liverpool in a few weeks will be interesting :-)

Steven Gerrard has once again but found out as a desperately poor player. What a joke he's been throughout the two games. And Jordan Henderson? Which major European side would even have him in the squad?

The anti Man Utd media in England will once again focus on Rooney or just rail about the defence. But the reason why the defence is hopeless is because England basically doesn't have a midfield.

dont knock them to much , they play in a system at Liverpool, under Rogers, that has been set up to use their talents to the utmost , it's why Messi has never done that well for Argentina, Hodgson is asking them to play in a way that is foreign to them.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

from tomorrow, each group's final matches will be play simultaneously, and most teams have a chance to qualify for the knockouts, so in a way, it's do or die from tomorrow.

it could go in weird ways, all kinds of permutations still possible.

i'll say it again, soccer is not rugby, the ball is very round, anyone who plays well but don't score and anyone that plays badly but outscore their opponent wins.
