Or modify the charger which is usually as simple as a couple of links on the circuit board and removing the MOV across the input or swapping it for a higher voltage one if you really want to keep it there.

Non-sense. Even with GST and shipping, buying Icebreaker from Amazon is a lot cheaper than buying from the store in Wellington.

People who bought stuff overseas will likely continue to do so.

Ah crap. No idea why they would do that. Guess I will have to shop around for another reshipper in that case or rely on friends.

Surely all freight forwards registered with the NZ government will have to collect the GST.
And all freight forwarders will be registered with the Government because they want an account with customs to speed up processing and payments for their larger customers.

Long story short, good luck shopping about.

Of course the Herald doesn't bother to mention that Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.co.jp etc have all stopped too!

I am not sure about the others but amazon.com continues to work just fine - they charge GST as needed (or not, as is the case since I just bought something yesterday before the 1st December and below the $400 threshold so was charged $0 GST/levies).

I can confirm that Amazon .co.uk and .de are no longer shipping to NZ.

I have a pre-order due for release on 2 December (.co.uk). It appears they will honour this, but no new orders can be placed (I believe someone mentioned November 18 as the last day orders to NZ addresses were possible).

Unfortunately, there are lots of things available in these stores that cannot be purchased through Amazon.com, at least not at a reasonable rate.

NZ retailers won't be getting more money from this. They'll get less of my disposable income (i.e. my monthly toy budget), as I'll be having to pay more, either in GST or freight forwarders for sites that will no longer ship to NZ.

I wonder if Dick Kogan Smith is implementing anything?

Amazon US already have a flexible tax collection system to deal with state sales taxes. They probably simply added NZ as another state... 😊

UK, JP, DE etc probably have less flexible systems.
