I've come into this issue of slow post via UBI (Aliexpress Standard Shipping).

I contacted their support via email to ask what is happening (http://www.ubismartparcel.com/en/contact-us). They replied fairly quickly saying my items were delayed and should be in NZ on the 3rd. I'll have to confirm this information is correct but for now I would recommend trying their customer support if you've been waiting long.

They flat out ignored me which email did you use or did you just use the form?

I contacted the international one (ubics-dlc@gotoubi.com) and got a reply from Susan (Susanqi-dlc@gotoubi.com). I got the reply about 40 mins ago so hopefully they are still around

I thought I should post an update...

None of the four packages have arrived. Period. There has been no updates to the tracking since April.

However I did order a small item after lock-down and had it sent via cheap shipping... I placed the order 3rd July, it arrived 6th August.

So its fair to say that shipping times are now back to normal as others have pointed out.

This does raise the question... what black hole did the items I ordered pre lock-down fall into?

You can't say that all four of them, ordered separately somehow got "lost in the mail".

I am aware, and I am sure that the freight forwarding companies are aware that these items were purchased via aliexpress.

Which means that the shippers are aware that if the items don't arrive by a certain date the buyer "will" claim a refund.

So is it possible that during lock-down, when the freight forwarding company couldn't arrange cheap shipping... that they simply dumped the whole consignment.

Which brings me to a legal question... are freight forwarding companies legally obligated to deliver mail no matter what. When they accept a parcel are the legally obliged to deliver even at a loss?

This is an uncomfortable conclusion to draw, but when you consider that there has been no movement on the tracking for almost 4 months! then it becomes a real challenge to draw other conclusions.

I have around 8 packages that have never arrived, ordered prior to lockdown. Other packages ordered during and after arrived (eventually).

same here. All the items that I purchased with Cainiao shipping havent been received. Although Chinapost and Yanwen arrived after 2-3 months.

Looks like the problem is with Cainiao who sends parcels to Malaysia and then to Zambia. One cable that I purchased in December arrived few weeks ago

Interesting observation, just checked and the stalled shipments seem to be mostly Cainiao, Yanwen gets through eventually.

Update: My items weren't scanned in NZ till this evening. Seems like even when the parcels get to New Zealand they take a while to get released to NZ post (possibly something to do with new import taxes?). I would definitely recommend trying to contact the company handling the package/s, UBI was very responsive in my case.

I placed an order for a cell phone case back on June 15th - Cainiao says by the 30th June it was accepted at Last Mile Carrier (which I can only assume is in NZ) - still hasn't been delivered, only cost me $5 so i'm not too fussed

Ah, now the reason for that should be obvious, the last mile carrier passes it on to the last km carrier, who passes it on to the last 500m carrier, who passes it on to the last 200m carrier, who passes it on to the last 100m carrier, who [...] last 50mm carrier [...] last 100 angstrom carrier [...] and so you can see why it'll never arrive. Same reason why Achilles can't overtake a tortoise.

I have a cellphone case that left China on 23/6 and still in the air :-( Maybe it's after frequent flier miles?

I've got cut-proof sleeves (for weeding around the bromeliads) that left China on 25 May, still no sign. OTOH stuff off eBay from China arrives within a week or two. I guess Ali's cut-rate shipping results in a more brownian-motion style of goods transfer.
