xpd: Slight twist on this thread.... say theres a Zombie outbreak while youre at work and you cant leave the building - how long do you think youd last ? Is your place of employment secure against zombie attack ? :)

Or even in your own home! Lets say you're not watching live tv or radio (very likely with a number of the folk here) and you're at home.

I'm in a single level house, access from all sides, with french doors on all sides! Just thinking about it makes me want to go home and board them all up -  just in case...

At home (long as Im not at the computer in the garage) Id probably be OK, only door 2 doors with security doors easily accessible, no stairs onto the deck so a nice sniping position (long as someone throws me a gun).

hrmm...

At work I'd be pretty well off, there are some coat racks that would become bats pretty quick, and being six floors up is pretty secure,

would need to barricade the two doors to the two stair wells.. but even then the stairwells would clear out eventuall as you cant open the bottom door without security - that could be negated when the power goes out though, I'm not sure.

Aside from that there is heaps of water, and plenty of CD supplies...

At home, well I'd be heading somewhere way more secure than my place lol.

Persuasion comes in many forms although I fear they will hold the upper hand here Sealed

I'm two floors up, and you need a swipe card to get up here. I think I'm relatively safe up here, and there's a café on this floor too! :D

swipe card == electromagnetic locks... what happens when the power goes out???? (dont forget to barricade the doors)

the fact is, its highly likely here in NZ we'll be largely unaffected, as long as we establish tight border controls, but lets face it, the chances are that if a zombie is on a plane, it'll probably result in a crash...

so we are already in a good position to sit back and watch the world burn...

Yeah, in a normal office environment, electro-locks have to disengage during power outage. Afterall, you can't have people trapped in a building when a fire cuts out power. Not that it wouldn't be a good idea sometimes ...

As for our border security ? Damn, they can't even stop a mossie or moth in time, do you think they'll be able to stop zombies ?  Even a cruise ship of zombies can wreak havock in a short amount of time.

Say if a cruise ship got infected just prior to departing USA / Oz, etc, and the entire ship is zombiefied, and on auto-navigation to NZ. It would just crash thru, disgorging zombies at will. Hopefully the nav is set for Wellington ...:-)

Auckland itself could be pretty defensible - just around Otahuhu there is a only a few KMs separating east and west coast waterways, so a big wall along there. ..

Not too sure about where to set the barricades further north though .... Bombays ?

Actually I like that idea - you could seal off Devonport south of Narrow Neck - its only about 400m wide. Naval base would be well supplied and has a wharf, plus good old fortifications on North Head. Number of parks which could be turned into arable land for farming...

Dang, I was meant Brynderwyns, not the Bombays for a northern barrier. But to think of it, make the entire area north of Otathuhu zombie-free. Pretty big area though.

However, a few Islands in the Hauraki gulf would suit - Gt Barrier, Waiheke ( once we get rid of the radio and TV personalities that seem to infest there ), Rangitoto, etc. Some have good high peaks for observing incoming boats, some are close to the city to allow foraging expeditions. Could even use one of the smaller islands as a quarantine ..

It looks like we're a step closer… (isn't this how I Am Legend began?)

Yes it was something like that.  I know it was cancer related.  But someone pointed out that I Am Legend were vampires not zombies.

"Look, I don't care what the telly says, all right? We *have* to get out of here. If we don't they'll tear us to pieces, and that is really going to exacerbate things for all of us."

Love that movie Tongue out
