Normal is not saying you have a sale for a TV for "$1899 save $600" and finding the same TV $120 cheaper at HN and NOT on sale.

 From staff over in AU

******************************

A sales assistant at one major Victorian store said. "Consumers are coming into the store believing that there are bargains because we have been placed under administration, when they check on their smartphones, what price the same goods are selling for in other stores they leave. There really is no sale, it's all one big con".

A Chadstone staff member said "Things were cheaper when Dick Smith was running the stores. As soon as the receivers moved in we were told to jack up prices. I suppose the banks want to get their money as quick as they can. It's not looking good".

******************************

It will be the same in NZ

That is how they always have been tho. In the old days that might have worked. But now you have the price of every other shop in your pocket as well as the history of them, it doesnt.

Even before the trouble started, you would see an ext HDD at DS for one price, and it would be 30-40% cheaper at PB without even logging in to see the good prices

Their brand reputation now has more holes in it than a colander.

The sooner the receivers flog it off to someone else to rebrand or dismantle the better. This death by a thousand cuts is just painful to watch.

The receivers are trying to keep it in one piece while they work with interested parties. See, they even kept the same hyperbolic marketing going ; ).

They have even put out a new printed catalogue today.    It feels small and thin.    Over half a page is devoted to SD memory cards and Flash drives.     Logically, this would be the page where they

advertise portable hard drives if they had any!    If you line up the current Noel Leeming catalogue against the Dick Smith catalogue it sure looks like the Dick Smith guys struggled to fill the pages.

Go to the website & find the link to latest catalogue (at bottom of page)  & it says there is no catalogue available.    So, is the latest catalogue just an attempt to make the front of the stores look as normal as possible &

maybe generate a few sales?  It all looks a bit half hearted if they can't be bothered putting it on the website.

The issue they face is...*

Many wholesalers won't be dealing with them anymore - so they won't be getting the new, lower pricing as the product ages.

This means they will be left with old, higher priced stock.

And seeing as they haven't paid their bills, forget any rebates.

What a joyful equation.

What do you do when you don't have enough laptops to cover two display shelves? Answer: Put about 28 yellow balloons on the almost empty shelf!! There were so many freakin' balloons that from one angle you couldn't see the three remaining display laptops. Said laptops could have fitted easily onto the other shelf.

I got their pamphlet in my letterbox yesterday.

It seems to feature phones (eg the Galaxy S5) on sale for more that Noel Leeming's regular price, as well as flashdrives and memory cards on "super special" at twice the price of the same product in the Warehouse Stationery, and three times the price at PB tech.

Not exactly compelling..........
