He purchased a kindle voyage back in oct/november from DSE, now it has stop working and pi**ed that if he takes it back to DSE he will just be an "unsecured creditor".

Do you think if he contacts amazon about it they will do something?

That is ironic, because when someone asked me the best place to buy a kindle, I said Amazon. But they disagreed, and said that DSE would be, because you would then be protected by the CGA if anything went wrong with it.

I guess they could contact amazon, but they may not help as it wasn't purchased through them. Or maybe contact whoever imports them into NZ or Oz, but I am guessing they are parallel imported by DSE. I am guessing that they would be required to provide the importers name upon request.

Friends and associates experience with Amazon dealing with Kindle issues is that Amazon could not be helpful enough.

They are a great company to deal with and wouldn't be surprised if they help in this case. It could be a bit of a fitbit case, where amazon steps in to help buyers.

I would have given them the geekzone link, if they did agree to buy from Amazon. But they were fixed on buying from DSE, which is fine and their choice, as long as nothing goes wrong with it.

Personally I would at least call DSE in the first. If they still have the supplier relationship they may deal with it quickly.

When I had a screen die on a Kindle, Amazon priority shipped me a replacement (After a quick, over the phone diagnosis) and told me to throw the old one in the bin.

From memory, it took around 48 hours to arrive from the time I called - all the way from the States - and actually took longer to cross Auckland than it did to cross the continental US and the pacific ocean, including a stopover in Hawaii.

If you have no luck, then I'd be reasonably sure that DSE were getting these via ProTempo, could give them a go. Or they might be able to point you in the right direction?

Great advice, they should contact them to just to check. Although legally DSE may not have to help old cusomters, I think morally they could help, by giving their supplier contact details openly. Maybe even publishing the suppliers of their products, so people know who they can contact. The CGA can span up to 5 + years, so potentially a lot of people may need that information.

There is zero chance of Amazon NOT helping. They take their Kindle business VERY seriously, and it's THEIR product.

Contact them and it will be solved quick smart.

Ah the good ol' turn it off and on again trick.... Good stuff and a much easier fix than anything through DSE or even Amazon themselves.

I agree completely. Most suppliers will have a customer facing number or customer support number or website anyway. It wouldn't hurt to share that information. I guess most major suppliers could be easy to find, but there will be examples which are not (eg Kindle or private label or accessory products or a lesser known brand like JVC)

Stories from the Australian finance and tech websites are saying that major suppliers would just like DSE to fade away as it's a lot easier to work with a few big retailers such as Harvey Norman, and that Microsoft & Apple see DSE as a tarnished brand they are not comfortable with.

It made me think that Westfield might be well pleased to get rid of DSE from its malls provided they can find successful retailers to take their place. In the case of Riccarton I bet Westfield would love to have a big new retailer where Dick Smith is now. Dick Smith is on the upper level there right in the middle, and another big retailer would help drive the 'foot traffic' I'd say.

Another week in the 'slow moving train wreck' goes by, & all they seem to do is fill up the shelves with slow selling large items to create the illusion of stock. The latest move is to put boxes of Samsung monitors on the shelves that used to have the portable hard drives. Now, there is probably nothing wrong with those monitors but they just have too many of them. Most people buy laptops & monitors are becoming a niche product. Yet another example of how the DSE buyers got it nearly right but not right enough for them to survive.
