I did not order one Lindt Bunny yesterday, expecting it today. I ordered a lot of chocolate some time ago, knowing well things would be slow to ship and deliver. And that didn't worry me.

My main problem is with a courier reporting the item as delivered when it was not. I checked my property. Checked the (empty property) neighbour's front door and mailbox. Then waited two hours on hold with the sender - and not even talking to anyone after that time.

So you folks are my Friday evening annoyance now.

I’m not aiming at anyone in particular - I found the whole thread disheartening, and pointless.

What annoys me is the apparent conviction of our broadcast media organisations, television news in particular, that nothing ever happens in the world on weekends so there is no need for coverage then, and in the unlikely event that something does happen, it can always be put off until 6 pm. It is like they never heard of the 24/7 economy and are still living in the 1950s. If I want to know what is going on in New Zealand, I have to watch the news in Australia.

... and if you watch TV news (well, TVNZ at least) on the weekend, half of the items aired aren't really news from that day - they're pieces that could be shown at any time over a two-week or longer period. These are things that were filmed on a weekday sometime earlier and are shown to help fill in the time on a Sat and Sun. I guess TV news reporters need to have weekends off too - and the employer doesn't want to pay for enough reporters to have a full seven-day coverage.

It would be better if they reduced the news to 30 minutes on weekends so that we get real news and don't need to sit through the crap.

I didn't make any assumptions, I definitely wasn't referring to you, or anyone else specifically or generally, and I wasn't aware you were even in that thread which I haven't read since the start of it when I made a cursory glance across it. I was referring to the Lindt Bunny *I* ordered (along with other chocolate) which hasn't arrived, and was making faux outrage at what *I* would do if it wasn't delivered soon.

What is so wonderful about the English language is its ambiguity. I meant the news that is in Australia, as in produced there. Think of it as watching a television in the house, but doing it from outside through a window. But of course it can also be read the other way. Point taken.

Yes, that is probably clearer.

I’ve pretty much given up watching the ‘Barbie and Ken’ show at 6 o’clock (and the magazine shows that follow). I’m tired of looking at reporters ‘on location’ standing outside schools and businesses that are unoccupied and dark. It particularly irked me when we were in level 4 restrictions because it smacked of “Look at me, I’m essential, I’m allowed out”.

A classic fluff piece on TV the other night was of an extended family celebrating a woman’s 100 birthday from 20m away in the forecourt of a retirement village. Then the intrepid reporter and camera crew go into an enclosed space with her and interview her. God knows where those media personnel had been, or who they had been in contact with in the preceding two weeks. Family, who care about the woman, stay away. Complete strangers, come on in.

Or the media showing police shooing people off Sumner Beach, and then showing a ‘wonderful’ fairy forest where people had attached little fairy houses to tree trunks. Only trouble was they showed people touching them, including little kids, who then stuck their fingers in their mouth.

The ‘woke media’ is something I try to avoid. I want news, not opinions.

My bug bear is news is too often just padded with USA political news. If you want to over international news how about covering more than uk and usa.

ABC is better than most. Understandably its focus is on Australia but some NZ and international news creeps in.
