ELHO ..anybody.using.outlook.com
x.y.z.x has a pointer but does not match HELO

I know it’s not a requirement but damn every one of them is like that

Hmmmm, there's a link that isn't, a four letter acronym (?) that makes no more sense to me at all if the order is rearranged, and I'm not sure if the post is a question with a missing question mark, or a statement using the.full.stop.between.words for emphasis.

ELHO seems to be a brand of recycled plastic planter pots.  Am I on the right track?

No. EHLO is a command used in the SMTP protocol (while transmitting emails from one server to another). Read more here https://help.returnpath.com/hc/en-us/articles/220223328-What-is-Extended-HELO-EHLO-

MadEngineer is complaining that Outlook/Office is not following the standard (not a requirement but if implemented it should follow).

A 242-word web page complaining about software bloat... which is itself a whopping 3.1 MB.

Ah thanks - I've possibly got it now - I think. So HELO isn't an acronym (ie like SMTP) or a backronym - but a command that is a homophone. But looks like it could or should be, especially when EHLO also isn't an acronym or homophone - but some kind of blend between the two.

Handle9: It's a moot point not a mute.

Mime artists having a debate would be a mute moot. Or sign-linguists.

Or maybe even Mid-Winter celebration, if we're being completely honest

HELO is, I believe, simply "Hello" constrained to a 4 letter command - and it's what the client first says to the server to begin sending an email.  Clients are polite!

EHLO is the extended version of the original command - so EHLO - still trying to keep inside 4 chars.

Remember back in the 1970s, bandwidth was a big issue, hence the very terse commandset.

I'm currently annoyed by Finance asking for 2021 Budget forecast by COB Monday. On a Friday afternoon, no less.
