As quite a few people mentioned before, tracking numbers don't show up on the NZ Post site straight away.

PetAT: ... but I wont be using them so I listed them back up on trademe for sale...

I wouldn't list until I had then on my hands - what happens if you sell those but they don't show up? You'd be the one getting a bad feedback from the buyer then.

I say wait before listing. If listed, remove until you have all of them.

Absolutely. I intend to do just that! actually said prefer local view and pickup so hopefully some local might use them :)

I learned the hard way to be more careful with online scammers. Bought an iPhone through an auction site 'Sella' around 6-7 years ago. Never showed up. Bank couldn't reverse the charge. To the site owner's credit, they handed over the seller's details which consisted of a name and address.

I went to two police stations and was turned away. At one I was told to go home and phone them instead! Useless.

Eventually I got it to the small claims court, presented my evidence (the other guy didn't show up anyway) and was ruled in my favour. I then arranged for a bailiff to check the address I was given and no surprise the people there said they'd never heard of the guy.

I passed the details on to Baycorp who supposedly tracked him down to a new address, but he never paid up and eventually moved away. Baycorp lost track and has forgotten about it, or maybe they never bothered in the first place.

I've let the matter go, but I've learned to be less trusting of online sales and auctions, though I still use them now and then, and I never buy anything expensive that isn't from a reputable company or anything that I can't pay for with cash in hand. Sadly my cynicism of the justice system has been vastly increased.

Sorry you got ripped off but it does show that everyone needs to be more vigilant who you purchase off.

My son bought a motor for his car ($600) from a woman in Christchurch, was given a shipping number.

After 2 weeks of it not turning up, he started tracking the number, turns out that it was fake.

Tried contacting the seller and eventually their account got closed by trademe (we were not the only ones scammed it seems)

Put together all the information for the police : Auction number, who it was, where the money was paid to (Bank account), etc etc etc etc etc, i.e. EVERYTHING they needed.

6 months later, they call my son back saying the person was well known for fraud, but they were not going to do anything... thanks, goodbye.

WTF ????????

Had our car broken into, all they were going to do is give us a reference number for the insurance company.

Now days we judge the crime, its it worth claiming insurance (loss of no claims + excess, etc) and if not we would not even bother with police if its not.

Another time 5-6 cars in the street got broken into, police though it could be up to 3-4 days before any cop would be able to have a look, however one of the neighbours vehicles had a firearm (slug gun) stolen from it, multiple cops in multiple cars arrived within 10 minutes.

Is crime falling, no, not even close, its just more and more people know its not worth reporting to police anymore

Call the police...pfft....best call your mum, at least she will give a damn.

Alright so I got the other tyres today, Same NZ Post van/courier post van guy came and dropped them off. haven't opened them up, but not bad really feeling them, Yea they were advertised and indicated to have a bit more tred, but meh..they measure around 3 - 4 mm I guess, no big deal. I already bought new tyres so I dont really care either way, hopefully they resell and I can get some of my money back. I wouldn't had likely used them anyhow if I got them earlier, so anyway..definitely raised my caution level, better dealing with known forum members as one says.. trademe and online stuff is fine 80% of the time, 95% if its a reputable person or shop I guess, that guy had a lot of bad feedbacks as I said over 150 red faces. So had I seen that and not the huge number of feed backs all together I would had thought twice. But it was a small lesson that will go far for me. Just a couple months ago I got ripped off buying another part worth around $100 that the guy took money for, (new member with a few feedbacks all positive mind you) and never delivered, and not uptil I pressured trade me to take that guys selling abilities off, did he stop login in and stuff.

I believe you sir, you guys should had taken their details and pushed for a court hearing, then the police would act up..funny thing is I had a lot of bad trades from south islanders if it makes a difference. I know of 2 cars that were bought from the south island, Christchurch to be exact that were far from described. As for Police..dont even get me started..see one of the requirements of being a police (revenue collector, imposer of the will of big brother, and some guy who thinks hes more then us because hes got some monkey suit on) is well having below average IQ. A friend tried to join them few years back, and he was told he is over qualified for the job..Don't be surprised...NZ Police is just a few steps shy from the scammers. Like I said, just call them and say you suspect there is a drunk driver driving around and you will see 5 cop cars chasing after a ghost in your street, waiting to hand a speeding ticker or so and so..but tell em your home has been robbed, they show up after a week. Got a few cars broken in our own neighborhood, nothing came out of it, police never even showd, just sent ref numbers after a month that case is closed or some bs..I sticked out my own neck for peace sake for two nights straight waiting inside my car with a bat.. they never came back since...Heck almost every time I have called them the woman on the other end has tried to give me a hassle, its just the job that attracts very insignificant people looking for a lazy position they can dictate from.

See bottom line is unless its a serious crime, they police wont care (not enough dough) and even then, the police cant really do much and the ultimatum of the criminal is a slap on the wrist. And I personally know people where such grave incidents where criminal justice system was a failure..The only reason you want them in a case as this is well, to put pressure or whatever arrives from their involvement as in some kind of authority. They only time they will act up would be if ordered by the court, otherwise they are after you wallet.. But thats a whole different subject altogether about the mostly useless doughnut eaters.

Sounds like a case of your mileage may vary. Depends on where you are I guess, what staffing is like, what the workloads are... Tarring everyone with the same brush isn't helpful to anything.

I know of a Wellington based air hostess who got ripped off on Trademe not too long ago. Airport police did some investigating, uncovered another 9 victims around the country, put a fraud file together and flicked it off to CIB in the relevent town. The perpetrator was locked up in short order and plead guilty at their first Court appearance.
