Let's entertain for just a minute the notion that citizenship is for sale. Minimum requirement; invest x millions in NZ businesses, like Thiel did with Xero and the telecommunications company I can't recall. I believe there's quite a few more in his case.

What is wrong with hat? What negative consequences does that have for the average kiwi? and don't tell me he's "buying up all the land". I don't know many people who can afford a 1000 hectare station in the South Island.

That is a reasoned response. If there is a net benefit to the country from selling citizenship to selected individuals, then it might not necessarily be a bad thing. But then it should be debated and done openly. Also, the added benefit of citizenship over residency needs to be clarified.

Ask yourself, why does the reasons fro granting need to be made public. If you went to Australia and was granted citizenship do you want the reason broadcast to all of Australia?

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Anyone with an open mind about this (I guess that rules out a couple of people here) may want to read and listen to the following:

really?  not called for.

What makes you assume I am referring to you?

I didn't,  I just don't believe it was a necessary comment

If Geekzone was limited to necessary comments, it would be a quiet place indeed. To reply to your other remark, I didn't mean to suggest that each individual's citizenship application should be subjected to public scrutiny. I do think there should be a debate on the issue of citizenship for sale, and what criteria, if any, should be applied. This way, when/if it happens in the future, there would be no questions such as now are being raised.
