Last Monday I sent two packages tracked and signature required from the Khandallah Post shop, one going to ChCh and one going to Auckland.  I bought labels online and printed them. The Post Shop said they could not scan the bar code (looked okay to me) and so entered the tracking number into another system.

From that time on tracking showed the items as being picked up at the local Post Office and never moving on. I initiated a trace with Post and they started a nationwide trace . Their suspicision was the packages were not put in the courier bag but in regular post with no tracking. Anyway finally the packages arrived this past Tuesday, 6 days after being posted!

I had some anxious moments with the package going to ChCh since it was a watch going out for repair and worth more than the $2K compensation Post provides. And even more annoyingly, I had forgotten I had booked a whistle stop trip to ChCh leaving last Sunday flying back on Monday so I could have taken the watch down myself, dropped it off at the jeweler and it would have arrived one earlier and I would have had much less angst!

I think I've said this before, but why does CourierPost allow two separate "1 of 2", "2 of 2" packages to share a tracking number? One arrived and the other didn't, but the tracking just assumes that both were delivered.

Something something consignment number was the excuse when I last asked. When they arrive you will see some really long tracking numbers on the sticker that will track correctly. You dont have access to get in to see those when you track with nzpost. the long wait call center can however.

I suspect this is so they can say "delivered" and its fewer not on time things.

Closing of the Manawatu Mail Centre probably won't help.

I queried NZ Post about my parcel, they got back to me the next day and said it's still in Melbourne and it's just been assigned a NZ tracking number. Will have to contact Amazon, although in their track parcel link they say to contact NZ Post!

Edit: Just did the Amazon chat thing and they seem to think it's lost so have refunded me. 👍

Yup, that's Aramex all right. Next update will be that it's been delivered, but you'll never see it because they've delivered it to a vaguely similar address in Nelson.

How did you know that there is the same address in Nelson? 😀We used to get mail for them from NZPost even though it clearly said Nelson!

Because stuff intended for the Casa has been delivered to a vaguely similar address in Nelson. I was actually using an example from real life :-).

Well Kudos to my Aramex driver. Parcel delivered at about noon today (Sunday)!

Driver said that Monday is usually so busy that she is trying to get ahead.

(I gave her a bag of Chocolate Fish for her trouble)

They all have problems, NZPost is upto a 2 working day delay on inter-island right now and 1 working day lower to upper NI. Maybe you could ask them to do NZPost and pay the price premium for it, many companies have eaten the price increases over covid19 but it's significant now.

Does the wooden spoon now go to NZ Couriers? For me they're 0 for 4 being able to deliver packages anywhere close to resembling overnight over the last couple of months. 4-5 working days has been the average, and their tracking is abysmal.

  • Package 1:

    • Pickup Mon 27/06 in Auckland
    • Delivery Fri 01/07 in Auckland
    • No scans between pickup and out for delivery
    • 4 days - pickup, depot, and delivery all in a 5km radius
  • Package 2:

    • Pickup Tue 19/07 in Hamilton
    • Delivery attempted Fri 22/07 - driver indicated "no access", even though NZ Post and FedEx both delivered packages that same day (and FedEx was about an hour before the supposed delivery attempt)
    • Re-delivery promised Mon 25/07
    • Delivery Tue 26/07, after being handed over to Sub60 (however, in the NZ Couriers system the handover to Sub60 was treated as delivered and they lost visibility of the package)
    • No scans between pickup and and out for delivery/attempted delivery
    • 5 days Upper NI
    • Raised as a formal complaint - both the false no access and the missed re-delivery commitment. I was promised a call back but got tumbleweeds. Disappointed but not surprised
  • Package 3:

    • Pickup Mon 05/09 in Palmerston North
    • Delivery Fri 09/09 in Auckland
    • No scans between pickup and out for delivery
    • 4 days Lower to Upper NI
  • Package 4:

    • Pickup Fri 23/09 in Palmerston North
    • No scan since pickup. Escalated yesterday and now there's a "depot search" as it apprently "hadn't been handed over to the driver"

I also ordered stuff from Amazon and Digi-key at the same time last week as the stuff from Palmy (Thurs 22/09). The US packages both arrived at 7.30am yesterday (Thurs 29/09) - 5 working days. Carriers were DPD/Aramex for Amazon and UPS/Aramex for Digi-key (the Amazon package also went though three different fulfilment centres on it's way, possibly to consolidate the items into a single package). I assume DPD and UPS simply have a bigger stick with Aramex.

Looking back at some of my tracking history over the last few months with NZ Post they have been 95% consistent with overnight, at least for me. 1 package out of 20 was delivered the next working day, and it was only 2 days for the single exception.

I also ordered stuff from AliExpress on Thurs 22/09 (yes, it was a bit of a shopping spree evening) and it's just left Shanghai last night. If it's consistent with other recent AliExpress Special Line-YW packages going through NZ Post, then I might have it Tuesday and at this rate it might beat the package from Palmy as well.

NZ Couriers make some bold claims on their website, which they can't seem to backup with reality.

  • "Join the best national courier service"
  • "Turn delivery drama into delivery delight"

I've had better, and still waiting to be delighted...
