Yep - I've had no issues using NFC with card or phone app when in Aus, though I'd usually decline to pay a surcharge so use eftpos or cash instead.

There's a political move here (pre-election promises) to nail the banks on paywave fees charged to retailers.  I never worked for a bank, but in other businesses when a near zero-effort / high profit deal was at risk, that created a certain amount of panic and desperation to protect it.

Some Real Cool Guy drove along my street, tossed a glass bottle out the window and it smashed everywhere. Now people are running over it. Why do some cretins believe that rebelliousness has to equate to obnoxiousness? Why is it cool to be known as a dick?

Before someone helpfully suggests it - it's too dark and the road too busy to go out there and attempt to clean up the glass.

Vacuum cleaners where the cord slowly winds itself in as you're vacuuming.

Like Microsoft's Jet database engine, which both sucks and blows.

The never ending media coverage of never ending rising real-estate prices.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

I vaguely recall someone promising to fix that...

@floydbloke I swear the realestate industry and press are deliberately fuelling the rises by using the old scumbag sales technique of raising urgency and this raises panic in buyers.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Upgrading router firmware, rebooting, and the router being inaccessible despite the blinkenlights being in their standard configuration. Turns out that the cable running to the router isn't transmitting the ether, despite it checking out OK on a cable tester, and picked exactly the moment of the firmware upgrade to fail.

OK, more likely the power cycle caused something, but it's an odd failure mode.

This is something I've reported twice to the police before and both times they took seriously.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it sounds like it wasn't a real router and was no loss.

Uhh, the router is a Draytek and is working perfectly, the problem is the ethernet cable that was plugged into it. It checks out fine electrically (at DC levels, not 250MHz) but won't communicate the ether to the upstream device.
