Geektastic:Likewise I have been asked so many times "Do you have another address in town we could use?"
Do you mean the villa in Tuscany or the penthouse apartment in New York?
A pop-up from Chrome this morning directing me to a GoPro bundle deal for US$399.00 (approx $600 NZD)
That same deal when redirected to the NZ GoPro site is $739.00 NZD
I understand shipping and GST etc, but $140 difference??? hmmm
And when did Chrome start offering me deals!!??

Oh yes - I actually own houses in several types of geographical situation merely so that we can find one your chosen courier can be bothered to deliver to.
You don't need to own a house to get mail delivered there. Cruise around town to find a vacant house with a capacious mailbox, and use that address.

Yep, a lot of overseas drugs get delivered that way.

I asked Licensys to reissue a government plate so I can have it back on my 30 year old car rather than the personalised plate it has now. They replied saying Kiwiplates can reissue it as a personalised plate.
Kiwiplates then confirmed the cost of getting it made as a Euro plate is $1200 !
I know the plates cost about $30 to make and I can have the 3 letter 3 number plate on my wife's car switched to a Euro plate for $299, which is enough of a rip-off.
But $1200....do me a favour.

Eva888: Cheaper for it to drop off the car on a bumpy road, or vandals to steal or deface it?
It's not to have an existing plate remade it's to have a dead plate reissued.
The process to make it available again took 2 minutes and is free. To now have the plate made is $1200.

Does it have to be made in NZ by a particular company, or can it be done anywhere as long as it meets the requirements? I think prisoners in America work for a lot less than that.

Can only be made my Kiwipates.
No wonder. Captive market. No need for efficiency, competitiveness, customer service, etc. Why do official monopolies always end up like this? Any chance you could ask them for a written cost breakdown and then publish it on Facebook? Or maybe take it to Fair Go? How do they justify that kind of price? Is the village smithy doing it by hand under a chestnut tree?

Not PC to force prisoners make them.
All you're really paying for is an entry in a database. The plate is a worthless piece of sheet metal.
IIRC, some proportion of the PP price is donated to charity.

Prisoners aren't forced. They earn 25 cents an hour!

I recall when personalised plates were first introduced they were around $250 to initially purchase. Trading pushed the "value" of some plates up once they were in circulation.
But the price to buy new has slowly risen over the years to the current level which seems very high. I guess partly market demand, partly monopoly supplier who can and will charge whatever they feel the market will sustain.
The plates that most "annoy" me are the ones that duplicate the information the car manufacturer already placed on a badge on the rear of the car, usually quite close to the plate.
"IS 250" on a Lexus IS250 for example.
So, you've just spent an additional $1200 to add nothing to the car. At least come up with something punny. :-p
