Which, if they run true to form, they will then try to clear by marking them "down" to $69.95.

I know the sale is set to run for up to eight weeks but it is the most boring sale I have ever seen. The pre Christmas sale was a lot more interesting as they had some really good bargains.

That was certainly quite an exciting sale, as there were some great bargains. But I suspect the bean counters that are now running things are going to be tight until the end, as they want to maximise the assets and scrap every last cent out of it. The pre xmas ones I suspect were about creating cashflow. Just wondering, anyone actually purchased any shop fittings yet, and what sort of prices they are going for?

I asked how much for a demo chromecast connected to one of their TV's no box no power plug $47 dollars i only paid $59 for my new one with box and all the kit

Is that the old gen or the new gen one? At $47, there is probably no margin in it for them anyway. Surprised they didn't throw in a DSE branded USB charger/cable though as they are going to have to sell those really cheaply to clear them when the story finally closes. It has been a slow death.

I think that by starting slow they are running the risk of boring the public to death so nobody actually goes into the stores until they are almost giving the stock away.

I was at Queensgate in Lower Hutt on the weekend and thought I'd do a circuit of Dick Smith to see what the sale prices were like. The problem is I couldn't see anything I really wanted at all, no matter how low the prices go, except maybe stocking up on some printer ink cartridges.

I bought a couple of boxes of cheap batteries and an almost-half-price Sony A6000 camera in the pre-receivership sale, got a wall bracket for my TV for under half price in the Boxing Day sale, already have a surplus of USB and HDMI cables, and don't need a new TV, antenna, printer or blender. I could be in the market for a cheap laptop or Kindle but the prices on the ones they have in store aren't particularly low (yet) and they mostly only seem to have low spec'ed stuff left anyway.

The prices have changed again - 20%-60% off with "limited exclusions" and only 5% off Apple.

I notice that items like JVC that normally include in-home warranty service include an A4 stating that you will not receive in-home warranty service (presumably this is something DSE had to pay for?)

This is at the Australian stores. I would assume the NZ stores will follow or it will happen today.

JVC has the same thing. Is there any warranty on them at all since it is their house brand I would have thought that dse gone means no support at all on them. Hugely overpriced TVs for what they are.

I went in and left empty-handed. 40% off cables makes them still about 4x what pb are...

That is the same sign on the NZ JVC stock. I didn't bother to ask if there was a warranty at all on the JVC's as I am not in the market for a TV.

JVC isn't the home brand, but there is a story apparently about what's going on / went on between Dick Smith and JVC. The end result is they do have a year warranty, just none of the in-home servicing. JVC would instead give you the address of a local repair agent to take it to instead.

I think you'd need to go into one of the more 'out of the way' stores to find a deal.

I might take a look at the Hornby shop & see what's going on there. I'm no retail expert but the location of the Hornby shop seems good located close to the mall entrance. The quietest of the Christchurch shops seems to be the one at The Palms. It is at the mall but outside near a parking area. Northwood Dick Smith seemed to be very quiet too when I had a look there a few weeks ago.

Had a quick look around the Hornby shop. Unless they are restocking this shop, I would say they have sold very little in the last 2 weeks. The gold reindeer from Xmas is on sale, did not notice the price, sorry.
