Just remembered a recent Dick Smith experience of mine. During the December clearance, I was offered a Panasonic 50" led display model TV for $400. But I discovered that there was something wrong with the picture. I was about to walk away from the deal, but I asked if it could be a problem with the HDMI switch. Another salesperson said there is definitely a problem with the switch and TV will be fine. He switched the TV to another input, and it was fine. My understanding is it had been that way for a number of years, and the staff were unable to get funding for a replacement switch. So basically, any tv sitting in that position never had a chance of selling... Sums up Dick Smith's demise.
I bought the TV in the end : )

A robbery possibly? From what I know, shops close temporarily while events are investigated by police. As far as I know my branch is still open. I'm going to put on my conspiracy hat and say it was an inside job in order to make a few insurance claims, haha. Let the theories roll in!
At least if they raid a gang house and find a P-lab crafted from massive quantities of HDMI cables and iPhone 4 cases they will know they have found the culprits. ![]()
I heard a sales person say that they get new specials every Thursday... so maybe they'll be another 5% off HDMI cables then?

mentalinc: You got to to add the 4% price increase before applying the 5% discount
Buy 10, get 5% off your 11th cable?
The Kindle I have had an eye on is now at 30% off, but its annoying you cannot check store stock (at least as far as I can see).

Depending how close you live to the store, its probably worth checking out if that discount is good enough for you.

I am still disppointed, i got 2 paper whites in the last sale for $99 each (these are the wifi / 3g ones).
Still over 200 right now
They seem to be selling a bit at DSE Riccarton over Easter. I noticed a small queue at the checkout area. One small area at the back of the shop is totally bare now. It used to have the terrestial aerials stacked up there.
Maybe someone in the concrete industry has bought those aluminium aerials to use as reinforcing, in preference to the dodgy steel products said to be lurking in many new buildings in Christchurch and elsewhere.
Anyway, getting back to the sale, I think they may have a problem with selling the multi card reader things. They have heaps of those almost as many as the USB hubs.
They have a lot of Sony W810 cameras. Not a bad little camera on a sunny day & you are taking photos of people who are standing still or statues! Anyway it was marked at $199 less 20%. The same day I noticed far newer Canon models at another shop
in the mall at $160. They are not going to sell those Sony cameras at $160.00 when something a lot newer is available at the same price.

If we are reminiscing, I bought a WDTV there years ago. She asked if I want extra warranty, I said no, she said why, I said I don't want that thanks, and she raised her voice and said WHY NOT? I was shocked. I should have ticked her off loudly, and demanded to see the manager, but her attitude and raised voice took me back. Never ever come across that before, and I doubt I ever will again. Shocking
